Can't say I didn't try. I just wish things were how they were before.
Today I've added a new section to DigiFAIL, "Hacks". These will be small little modifications or projects I've done, things that don't really deserve the long form treatment that the "Projects" do.
The first entry in this new section is the modification I made to my Sony Blu-ray player, which adds internal storage for use with BD movies with downloadable content.
Try not to freak out...two new pages added
Its been awhile since I put much time into the site, I know that. Things have been busy. Between the kid and working on other stuff, my own site has fallen behind quite a bit.
But today I've done the unthinkable...I've made two major site updates on the same day!
First up, there is now a page for "Bluetooth Hunter's Guide", my latest 2600 article. I went above and beyond for this one, and actually scanned the cover of my issue to get the featured artwork (apparently 2600 is too busy with HOPE 9 to update their online cover images). I'll be honest, this article isn't my best work, but maybe some people will find it useful.
Second is the big one. I've added a new Project! DigiFAIL has had the same two projects since I started it in 2010 (added a couple failures though...), and getting a new one up here makes me feel warm and special like.
The project is adding RTL-SDR support to the Pwnie Express Pwn Plug and using it as a remote SDR station. I haven't actually installed the Pwn Plug at a remote location yet, but I got the software installed, hardware tested, and some very positive tests over the local network. I'm going to set up a test over the Internet in the near future, and I'll be sure to update the page then.
Well, it's been awhile since I updated the site. Apologies. Other things have come up, but I do still maintain DigiFAIL.
Today's update is my customary web-version of a recently published 2600 article. This one is the somewhat embarrassing reconsideration of my opinion on the CR-48 and Chrome OS in the wake of my home being robbed. Who would have thought.
For those following my QR campaign, you may be interested to know that in this issue, 2600's editorial staff decided to willfully disobey the request that my contact QR code be placed in the head of the article. This if of course after the staff instructed authors to include their own QR if they wanted it to be displayed. I will take this to mean that, as usual, 2600 has decided to be stalwartly archaic and abandon the use of QRs.
It's a day or so late, but I have added a page for my latest 2600 article, "Introduction to Chrome OS".
This is my shortest article and was accepted faster than anything else I've submitted; it also appears as the first article in this issue, which is pretty cool. While not very technical, I like to think it's an interesting read if you aren't up on Chrome OS yet.
This issue of 2600 also contains my letter talking about the success of the QR codes used in my previous article and my suggestion for implementing it as an official feature. The staff was less negative than usual, and has run a test QR that points to "[email protected]" to see if it changes the number of emails they receive. Should be interesting.
I forgot to mention that "Mobile Hacking with Android", my latest 2600 article, hit the presses at the beginning of the month. I am happy with the way this one turned out, and have already gotten some good reader feedback. This is the first article with QR codes ever to be published in 2600, which I think is pretty cool. Not that those went off without a hitch, but you can read more about that in the Foreword.
Google +1 Added
I have just pushed out a small site update that adds Google's new "+1" button to the bottom footer along with the other social network...things. Feel free to not use this button, just as nobody has used the previous buttons.
DigiFAIL getting social!
I don't personally subscribe to any social networking sites, and even having this blog was a bit of stretch for me, but the analytics don't lie: everyone else in the world is "sharing".
So on that note, I am going live with a new feature on DigiFAIL. In the footer, you can now select different sites to share and republish parts of the site to. I added the most likely sites to start with, but they may change in the future. Hopefully this helps spread the site and my work to even more people.
