DIGIMON BEATBREAK 13 - Hey guys want to see how hard I can freak out???
I can't even discuss a single thing without it being a spoiler, but I will open up with these three images from the OP and how they've all been quietly explained or had their existence expanded upon with some new information introduced this week:
So.
Without further ado, behold as I try to calmly discuss part of episode 13!
apologies for the length of the post
WHAT. DAMN.
AN EXPLOSION 20 YEARS AGO?!
That, might I add, caused a whole island to disappear!!
But not only that! The explosion seemed to have stretched all the way from Japan westward all the way to Europe(!?) and eastward to the middle of the Pacific Ocean...
It feels like it's implying that after the explosion, one whole side of the planet was blinded by the light, even?
AND BEYOND THE STRATOSPHERE!?
Oh, but don't get me started on the fact that, looking at this scene below, the entirety of Japan was impacted by widespread loss of power (and untold damage or loss to a number of infrastructure)?! Nor that 1.3 MILLION either died or were missing.
We don't even know the numbers of injured.
This isn't going to be last we refer back to the incident. Especially that now that we know this information, anyone in the main/supporting cast over 20 is either a survivor or someone who spent the entirety of their childhood in the immediate aftermath of the tragedy.
Notice, also, how the logo of the Five Stars seems to resemble the light from the explosion so conveniently.
Oh and don't get me started on the implication that Asuka and Kyo grew up in the immediate aftermath of this.
Any one of the cast members older then 20 has lived through this event. Asuka, Kyo, Mr. and Mrs. Tenma, Wong, Klay, Rose, Seraphy, Genjou, Maki, Yosshi and any other important parents we meet better be dropping some hints to us during the course of the series.
I don't expect Wong to be forthcoming or truthful to be honest, but I do think Yosshi will have a lot to tell us that might change our views on some things...
Anyway: I call secret lab shenanigans for the incident. Of what kind, I have no idea. I want to say Digimon-related...or Digital World related but how. Whatever it is, it took out all the power sources to an entire country and I can't imagine how terrifying the aftermath of something like that must have been.
Back to the main part of this post I wanted to bring up -- these three blink-and-miss-it images from the OP:
So now we know that the shot on the left was a (negative-coloured?) shot of the base of operations of the Five Stars, Abraxas. It makes sense that it is in a part of the Mirror World, too...and seems...enormous potentially? Like the Shangri-la Egg cities, maybe?
This one right here.
I remember early on seeing a lot of theories posit that it maybe related only to Gekkomon, but now it seems as if it's a reference to the explosion during the Vanishing of Kano Island that happened in 2029. And by extension, the Five Stars' logo. I wouldn't rule out those early theories though if Gekkomon's next evolutions bring back the crescent moon.
(I mean, his introduction seem to make a point to make sure the full moon was very focused on and zoomed out from in the shot. Also Gekkou-> げっこう->月光-> Moonlight. So you never know!)
I keep using this one as a "I want to know what the y-axis values say omg.", but now we have an idea what probably precipitated the surge in Sapotama adoptions, but also can hint that Sapotamas were around in the late 2020s by the time the Kano incident occurred.
I think the surge may tie in to something we learn later regarding a version of the Sapotama released by 2040. In the spring of 2050 we're already at version 16, so I wonder what upgrade or other event is responsible for the spike in Sapotama adoptions? I imagine smart advertising was involved...
I kind of want to drop a random theory that maybe the World Union opened up more places for people to move in to the Shangri-la City Eggs, and heavily promoted how Sapotamas and attaining true happiness and your ideal self were key....but, I'm not sure.
"Your lives can be so much better, happier and secure if you attain your ideal self and take up residence within our disaster-proof cities."
I think would sound attractive after the first five years of the disaster...The graph seems to show that the biggest increase came from a rapid influx of Late Majority adopters. But there's a lot still unknown. And I like that
(I do think that the y-axis values are in millions or tens of millions so the values before the 2030s while they may look "close" to zero are still very high, just that growth was very slow)
Not only that, but what about e-Pulse chips and the discovery of e-Pulse? I feel this preceded 2029 by a lot...
Tactics Team Seven - I don't like them already :'D
But we had an interesting introduction to them!
I actually believe that Raito, Hotaruko and Granit were doing intel gathering and scoping by conveniently meeting up with each member of Glowing Dawn.
Especially when considering the bomber was hiding in plain sight inside the mall it's a quick shot:
(which, btw, I liked how we got a quick moment to see how the MCP and local police do not work together...and how Cleaners are afforded a minimum amount of protection from local authorities when it comes to Digimon bounties)
Raito was not what I was expecting in terms of personality and I sincerely hope he's going to get his butt kicked by Reina, and humbled by Kyo (after an attempt to sympathize with him, but be rebuffed). I also hope we see him snap a bit.
Granit...I'm wondering what this kid's past was like. Granit's profile would hint that s/he comes from a rough background potentially. Or...somewhere that just isn't in a good state due to the after-effects of the Kano Incident? Sunny Yamada (Or Hino the information broker?) looked like he could've been salivating when he mentioned how Chiropmon would be useful for spy tactics and warfare. Digimon and warfare? Eh??
I have a separate post about Klay's comments to the bomber and how he (and his digimon?) could still have some use...
I'm curious what Kyo will think about having their bounty stolen because Tactics Team 7 never introduced themselves. So as far as the kids are concerned, the group was just an unscrupulous trio who stole their bounty. Kyo may not spontaneously know either when they tell him, (especially what I think is his line in the Tactics Arc PV) but he might find the early encounters the kids had to be suspicious?
Also! Welcome to Digimon, Hatano Wataru (he's Monodramon)! I honestly thought he had been cast in the past, but this is shockingly his first role?!
My gosh. Things are really promising with this second arc.
Thank for you for reading my long-winded posts. (I have more to talk about in separate posts, lmao Beatbreak has really taken up residence in my brain. I haven't felt like this in years, so there'll be a lot of posts I think XDDD)
