東京に本社を置き、アフリカの発展途上国でキオスク店舗をネットワークすることにより、無電化地域に電力を届けるサービス「WASSHA」を展開する Digital Grid は20日、JICA（国際協力機構）から3億円を調達したことを発表した。Digital Grid はこれまでにシリーズBラウンドで、東京大学エッジキャピタル（UTEC）、日本政策投資銀行、イノベーティブベンチャーファンド（NECグループとSMBCグループによる共同運用）、電源開発から総額9億円を調達しており、今回は同じラウンドでの追加資金調達。JICA からの3億円とあわせ、シリーズBラウンドでの調達総額は12億円となる。

固定電話の普及率が、その国の工業化の度合を示すバロメーターだった時代がある。数十年前、中国の固定電話の普及率は、日本のそれを大きく下回っていた。しかし、モバイルが発明されて、スマートフォンが世に紹介されるや、中国の都市部におけるスマートフォン保有率は、日本の2倍以上に当たる100%を超えてしまった（つまり、一人1台以上のスマートフォンを持っている計算）。おそらく、数年後に中国に旅するときには、クレジットカードや空港での通貨交換は必要なくなり、一連の旅先での支払がモバイル決済で完結できる日が来るだろう。
