Pentax introduces its first medium-format digital SLR camera, the Pentax 645D. The camera sports a large 40 Megapixel CCD image sensor that measures 44mmx33mm, which is about 1.7 times larger than 35mm sensors. The 645D is equipped with the PRIME (PENTAX Real Image Engine) II image engine with high-speed data-processing capacity and new algorithm exclusively programmed for medium-format DSLR.
Pentax‘s 645D features SAFOX IX + wide-frame autofocus system with 11 sensor points, 77-segment multi-pattern metering, an easy-to-see optical viewfinder and the DR (Dust Removal) II mechanism. It offers Hyper Program, Hyper Manual, HDR (high dynamic range) functions and Sensitivity-Priority and Shutter/Aperture-Priority modes. There is a 3-inch LCD display with AR (Anti-Reflection) coating and dual SD/SDHC memory card slots.
The Pentax 645D has a solid yet lightweight body with strong magnesium-steel alloy main frame, diecast aluminum chassis and dustproof, weather-resistant construction. It will be released in May 2010 for about 850,000 Yen. Also introduced is the smc PENTAX-D FA 645 55mmF2.8 AL[IF] SDM AW lens.

Nikon announced the new D7000 digital SLR camera designed for “passionate photographers who demand exceptional performance, reliability, and unprecedented levels of control and versatility in a compact form factor”.
The D7000 is equipped with a new 16.2 Megapixel DX-format (APS-C) CMOS image sensor, the EXPEED 2 image processing engine, built-in i-TTL Speedlight flash and a 3-inch LCD display with 170-degree viewing angle. It features a 39-point AF System, which includes nine center cross-type sensors that operate with more than 60 NIKKOR lenses; Live View, a 50-millisecond shutter response, ISO range of 100-6400 and a six frame-per-second (fps) burst speed for up to 100 images.
Nikon’s D7000 includes the Scene Recognition System that reads data from a 2,016-pixel 3D Color Matrix Meter RGB sensor that examines the scene’s brightness and color data then optimizes the camera’s performance prior to the actual exposure. The DSLR records Full HD 1080p movie at 24fps with full-time autofocus and there is HDMI output. D7000 has two card slots for SD, SDHC, SDXC memory cards.
Coming in mid-October, the Nikon D7000 is priced at $1199.95 for body only and $1499.95 for body and lens outfit that includes the AF-S DX Zoom-NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens.

Nikon introduces its new flagship D4 Digital SLR camera (DSLR) with a multitude of new features and functions, replacing the D3, D3X and D3s To deliver supreme image quality, the D4 is equipped with a 16.2 Megapixel FX-Format Full Frame CMOS image sensor and the new Nikon EXPEED 3 image processing engine. It offers a broad ISO range from 100 to 204,800 for enhanced low-light performance, and the new 91,000-pixel RGB 3D Color Matrix metering system that meticulously analyzes each scene and recognizes factors such as color and brightness with unprecedented precision.
The Nikon D4 features Advanced Multi-Cam 3500 AF auto-focus system and aligns 15 cross-type sensors in the center to detect contrast data in both vertical and horizontal planes. It supports up to 11fps continuous shooting in FX format with accuracy for up to 200 frames. Nikon’s new DLSR includes also the Advanced Scene Recognition System, achieving new standards of accurate autofocus, auto exposure, i-TTL flash, Active D-Lighting and auto white balance results. The camera’s auto-area AF mode accurately recognizes human faces and achieves sharp focus immediately and automatically, and provides a quick response with 0.12s startup time and about 0.042s shutter-release time lag. There are also HDR (High Dynamic Range) that combines images to produce a single image with a wider dynamic range, and the Time Lapse shooting.
The Nikon D4 is able to record Full HD 1080p video at 30/24fps in H.264 / MPEG-4 AVC format and has HDMI output for showing pictures and videos on a bigger screen. It has a 3.2-inch LCD screen with 921k dots. The camera supports Nikon’s NIKKOR lens system with more than 50 lenses with a variety of focal lengths and features, including VR II vibration reduction. In addition to UDMA-7 CompactFlash memory cards, the new D4 also supports the new XQD memory card.
Coming in February, the Nikon D4 will be available for $5999.95.

Nikon introduces the its new D800 and D800E digital SLR cameras featuring a 36.3 Megapixel FX-Format CMOS image sensor. To handle extreme resolution and deliver amazing images, the D800/D800E is equipped with EXPEED 3 image processing engine. The D800 records Full HD 1080 video at 30/24p or 720p video at 60/30p in H.264/MPEG4 AVC format. It has a 3.2-inch LCD display with reinforced glass automatic monitor brightness control, and wide viewing angle. Users can also bring images or videos to a larger screen via HDMI port.
To meet professional’s need for maximum speed, the D800 is ready to shoot in 0.12 seconds and is ready to capture with super-fast AF and response speed. It has a lightweight body with the chassis construted of magnesium alloy for maximum durability. It supports RAW shooting and supports CF and SD memory cards including the latest UDMA-7 and SDXC/UHS-1 cards. The D800 has two axis Virtual Horizon graphic indicator and users can use the LCD display or viewfinder to check if the camera is level—horizontally or with forward or rear rotation.
Another model, D800E treads in medium format territory for studio work or landscape photography when there is no exception to only the highest fidelity and sharpness. It includes all features of the D800 yet it will effectively enhance the resolution characteristics of the 36.3-megapixel CMOS sensor by cancelling the anti-aliasing properties of the OLPF inside the camera. “By doing this, light is delivered directly to the photodiodes, yielding an image resulting from the raw light gathering properties of the camera. A color moiré correction tool will also be available within Capture NX2 to enhance the D800E photographer’s workflow.”
The Nikon D800 will be available in late March for $2999.95 and the D800E in April for $3299.95.

Nikon introduces the new D600 which is the firm’s smallest, lightest and most affordable full-frame DSLR. The D600 is quipped with a 24.3 Megapixel full-frame FX-format (35.9 x 24mm) CMOS sensor and EXPEED 3 image processing engine to deliver image quality and performance that photo enthusiast are looking for. The camera uses magnesium alloy top and rear construction to provide a lightweight camera with maximum durability, and its body is sealed and gasketed against dirt and moisture.
The D600 features a 39-point AF system with the new MultiCAM 4800FX AF module, and users can choose from single point, continuous AF, Dynamic AF for different shooting style or condition, or use 3D tracking to keep pace with a moving subject throughout the frame. It offers a wide ISO range from 100-6400 (expandable from 50-25,600), giving photographers maximum low-light flexibility yielding clean images with minimal noise and accurate color. The new camera is fast that it is ready to shoot in 0.13 seconds, with a 0.052 second shutter release, and it is capable of 5.5fps high-speed burst shooting at full resolution. Nikon’s D600 includes the Scene Recognition Sytem with 3D Color Matrix Metering II and 2,016 pixel RGB sensor to evaluate every scene, taking into account brightness, contrast, subject distance and the scene colors, resulting an enhanced AF performance and flawless metering.
The D600 supports Full HD video recording at 30, 25 or 24p, or 720p video at 60, 50 and 30p. To handle high-speed shooting of images and videos, the camera has dual SD card slots with support for SDXC and UHS-1 high speed standards. It has a 3.2-inch 921K dot LCD display for previewing and review images and videos. Its HDMI output not only allows you to show your work on big screen. You can also show images on the camera’s LCD screen and another monitor through HDMI at the same time for monitoring and streaming applications. The HDMI connection can also transfer uncompressed video.
Users can get the optional WU-1b Wireless Adapter to add wireless capability to the D600. With the adapter and the the applications for Android device and iPhone/iPad, users can wireless connect to the D600 and remotely fire the shutter and share their images taken with the D600 through their mobile device to their social circles. Though the camera uses FX-format sensor, you can still use DX-format lenses on it.
Coming in 18 September, the Nikon D600 is available for $2099.95 for body only or $2699.96 for the kit set with the AF-S NIKKOR 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR lens. The WU-1b wireless adapter is priced at $59.95. Also coming is the $322 MB-D14 Multi Power Battery Pack that extends the grip for comfort and doubles the battery capacity.
