I'm gonna try asking again 'cause I think either I screwed up or something... I've been asked to make my 4-year-old niece the Elsa coronation gown, for both playing dress-up and Halloween (should she still be interested in Frozen by then). Should I use a decent satin (more accurate) or cotton (more durable/washable)? And what kind of seam finish(es) should I use? (I trust your advice because you're way more awesome than me)
Ahhh, I never got the first one! :C
Okay, so... I'd actually use something like a sateen? A cotton sateen has a kind of sheen to it (like satin), but the durability of a heavier cotton, like twill. It's also 100% cotton and therefore dyeable. C:
As for seam finishes, serging is obviously ideal, but in a pinch, use a french seam. For a play dress, I'm comfortable with just roll hemming things twice. Good luck!
