How you to View Your UK Digital Immigration Status
This online service allows you to view your UK digital immigration status and generate temporary "share codes" to prove your right to work, rent, or study in the UK to employers, landlords, or educational institutions.
What is an eVisa?
An eVisa is a digital record of your immigration status. It is linked to your passport or other identity document. You do not receive a physical card or a vignette (sticker) in your passport. Most people with Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs) are being moved to the eVisa system.
What You Can Do With This Service -
View your status: See your immigration status, including your conditions and the expiry date.
-
Get a Share Code: Generate a unique, time-limited code to share your status with others.
-
Update your details: For example, change the passport details linked to your status.
-
Prove your right to work: Provide evidence to an employer.
-
Prove your right to rent: Provide evidence to a landlord or letting agent.
-
Prove your right to study: Provide evidence to your education provider.
Who Can Use This Service
You can use this service if you have:
-
A Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) or Card (BRC).
-
Settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme.
-
Been issued a digital status (eVisa) instead of a BRP.
-
Status under the points-based immigration system.
How to Use the Service - Step-by-Step
You will need:
-
The identity document you used when you applied for your visa or status (e.g., your passport, BRP, or national ID card).
-
Access to the mobile phone number or email address you used in your application (for a security code).
Process:
-
Go to the Start Page: You begin on the page you linked: https://www.gov.uk/evisa/view-evisa-get-share-code-prove-immigration-status
-
Click "Start Now": This redirects you to the secure Government portal.
-
Choose How to Prove Your Identity: You will be asked how you want to prove your identity. The most common options are:
-
Using the UKVI account you created when you applied.
-
Using your BRP card number.
-
Using your passport details.
-
For EU Settlement Scheme status, using your share code or signing in with the details you used to apply.
-
Follow the On-Screen Instructions: You will be guided through a secure login process, which often involves receiving a security code via SMS or email.
-
Access Your Dashboard: Once logged in, you will see your immigration status details.
-
Generate a Share Code: To prove your status to someone else, you select the reason (e.g., "Right to Work") and generate a new share code. This code is typically valid for 90 days. You can generate a new one at any time.
What a Third Party (Employer/Landlord) Does
You give them:
-
Your Share Code.
-
Your Date of Birth.
They then go to the separate government service for employers (https://www.gov.uk/check-right-to-work) or landlords (https://www.gov.uk/check-tenant-right-to-rent) and enter these details to see a summary of your immigration status and what you are allowed to do.
Important Information from the Service -
It's Free: The service is completely free. Do not pay anyone to use it for you.
-
No Physical Document: You will not be given a physical document to prove your status in most cases. The digital service is the primary method.
-
Keep Your Details Updated: It is your responsibility to ensure the contact details and passport information linked to your UKVI account are current.
-
Troubleshooting: If you cannot access your account, the page provides links to get help, including recovering your sign-in details.
In essence, this page is the gateway for individuals to manage their digital immigration status in the UK, replacing the need to show a physical document in many situations.

From 2025 onward, the United Kingdom will introduce e-visas as a replacement for traditional physical biometric immigration cards. While biometrics will still be collected, there will be no issuance of physical cards or visa stickers. The e-visa will serve as the official proof of immigration status.
