HOW DIGITAL TWIN CAN CHANGE SOFTWARE PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT!
Digital twins have been already adopted in manufacturing, automotive and construction industries. Organizations in these industries are using digital twin technology to evaluate the performance of a given physical asset, and then determine where improvements can be made to achieve better results.
A recent survey by research facilities provider ‘Catapult’ included results from several engineers to better understand the components they believe are the most necessary for digital twin technology to function effectively. Key findings of the survey were:
1. Repairs, Repairs, and Operations:
Almost all engineers believe that digital twins have a major impact on this stage in the product life cycle. 2. Production: Production was believed to be the next big thing when digital twins would add more value. 3. Imitation: The simulation of a model that predicts the current and future performance of a given asset will also have a positive impact due to digital twins. 4. Quality Control: The use of digital twins in quality control tests seems very promising. 5. Design: Organizations have successfully used digital twins in product development during the product design / cost-saving process of POC / MVP. 6. Finance and Procurement: Research has highlighted that finance and procurement should be one of the key components in the product life cycle for the benefit of digital twins. 7. Sales and Marketing: In addition to Finance & Procurement, Sales & Marketing is another department where engineers believed digital twins could have a small impact.
