Bob Clark

1. Black Christmas (god damn if this isn’t still creepy as hell. great direction, tight as hell, atmosphere, and the grand daddy of all slasher movies)

2. A Christmas Story (i was on the ground floor with this movie and I’ll be damned if over saturation is going to ruin my enjoyment of it. I have enjoyed identifying originally with Ralphie and now through the parents. I can see my march towards the grave in this film!)

3. Deathdream (honestly the MOST underrated horror film of the 70s. I would put it up with Dawn of the Dead. Very interesting early commentary on PTSD sending kids to kill in war and expecting them to be the same when they come back and when they are not we offer no help)

4. Death By Decree (what a fucking amazing cast, right? Sherlock Holmes vs Jack the Ripper)

5. Porky’s (A VHS staple if somewhat dated)

6. Breaking Point (a fun mafiasploitation film that I dont remember too well)

7. Children Shouldn’t Play With Dead Things (an ok low budget horror movie, that gets by with its shoddy charm)

8. Porky’s II (eh)

9. Rhinestone (this is terrible and I love Dolly Parton and Stallone more than most)

Robert Bresson

1. Pickpocket (my first Bresson and it left a deep impression on how movies could be made)

2. Au hasard Balthazar (this movie fucks me up just thinking about it)

3. Mouchette (this movie fucks me up just thinking about it)

4. Diary of a Country Priest 

5. The Trial of Joan of Arc (I saw this for the first time as a double bill with The Passion of Joan of Arc, these are all such emotional films told with such a poetic eye)

this reminds me that I still have several of his films still left to experience for the fist time.

The Super Duck posts are golden and that comic needs to be reprinted in book form.

Thanks! Yeah I’d buy it. I skim through a lot of comics on preservation sites and there are lots of mediocre books, but I’ve managed to find a couple of fun ones since I’ve been looking. My initial impression of Super Duck wasn’t good, but it grew on me.

SD definitely encapsulates a sort of cartoon violence (with all the exclamations and pain stars) that fascinates me. It follows Super Duck, who is a sort of Donald/Daffy hybrid that gets into different crazy dilemmas constantly. SD lives with his little brother Fauntleroy (sp?) who is often mischievous and gets the two into trouble. In the early books, SD used to run into trouble and then take a vitamin pill that would make him super strong like Popeye with spinach, but that gag seemed to have died out in the later books.

If you liked Pickpocket more go with Country Priest, if you liked Balthazar more go with Mouchette

Rammstein

Am I a fan?: Not really. I’m more of a fan of the artists that inspired them, like DAF and Laibach (although I feel iffy about the latter due to the fascist imagery).

Unpopular Opinion About Them: I wish Beavis & Butthead lasted longer, so they could riff on Rammstein’s outlandish videos.
