Fem!Dimitri (Irina) doodle and some thoughts.
While Dimitri’s main and default incarnations are trans, his anchor backstory is so particular that it’s actually hard to put him in more mundane settings unless he’s cis, which is interesting to me… He didn’t go through the typical teenage journey of finding himself and gaining queer friends as he takes HRT and grows into his body, he was just put in the torture nexus and forcemasc’ed by the groomer who killed his family 😔 But he was already disconnected from female-ness to begin with (a “tomboy”) and viewed traditional Eastern European masculinity as aspirational, so the changes felt right even if they were forced onto him.
Since this all happens when he’s a child, it’s a huge divergence if he’s raised as a girl and it majorly changes the vibe of interactions that take place before his late 20s, since Irina is a whole different archetype from Dimitri… Especially in mundane modern day settings, it takes her a while to figure out why she’s always felt unmoored and “wrong.” As much as she idolised men and masculinity she was forced to develop an identity based on what she actually had, because being too divergent would disadvantage her—she’d be othered and unsuccessful in life.
So she ends up more of this femme fatale baddie type who combines her Natural Feminine Charms with her deep understanding of what men want and how they think to get ahead. One of those women who has more male than female friends, though the revulsion at being seen as just another slut who’s kept around for entertainment sometimes overwhelms her and she lapses into having more flings with women to cope. Dimitri is a gay man who sometimes fucks women for various reasons, but Irina is a “woman,” and if she’s mostly interested in (rugged, strong, powerful) men—that just makes her like every other cishet bitch who can’t escape their own social conditioning, right…? So if she defies that and indulges in Gay Sexual Degeneracy and Femdom she’s regaining control over the narrative—that sort of thing.
Even after she learns about HRT and gets to know other trans people, it takes her a bit to get on it herself because she worries about whether it’ll only make her more dysphoric. There are some effects of testosterone that are irreversible, and she’s carved out a place for herself in the world as “Irina” already—does she really want to throw that all away? Does she really want to take a chance on some pipe dream when she doesn’t know if she can even become the man she wants to be? If she’ll ever even really pass? Especially since, realistically, she’s not particularly tall or robust—average height, thin-average build. Does she want to transition from being a drop-dead beauty to just being… Some mid-looking short skinny guy???
In his usual iterations, Dimitri is so tall and beefy due to sci-fi experimentation LOL So Irina is more likely to take the jump if those things are available to her as well. But just regular HRT, she’s a hard sell until she experiences enough dehumanisation and harassment living as a woman in a cutthroat, superficial environment that she can’t take it anymore (an AU where she’s a prima ballerina is one such example). There’s a 25% chance that she becomes butch instead of a man, but HRT is still possible in that route too.
Anyway yeah this was super random and I tend to be shy / wary when it comes to talking about my OCs publicly, but I can’t seem to stop thinking about Dimitri / Irina lately so I needed to yap 🙇
