The link for this image has been deleted, but how gorgeous is she? This beautiful girl is a cattledog with recent dingo ancestry.
This may have been accidental, though it is more likely that dingoes have been traditionally bred into many working cattledog lines to create faster and smarter animals that are resistant to heat stress, require less feed and water, have greater endurance.
The problem is, a lot of the time, it takes until there have been three to four generations of crosses until the pups are more doglike than dingo and are unsuitable for working.
Many are simply killed, but they are sometimes raised to be old enough to asses their capacity for working and breeding on with dogs. Most aren’t able to work. They are too timid, won’t respond to harsh training methods, won’t cope if chained up as many working dogs are, and will often run off into the bush... I wonder why there are so many hybrid dingoes out there? The ones the farmers hate the most?? Hmm.
There’s good news for this one though. This beautiful girl has a family who love her, she’s well cared for and thankfully is in no danger. But she is a great example of what a hybrid looks like, unlike many dingoes which don’t fit the coat colour myths and are somehow considered a dog. She isn’t an F1 or probably F2 cross, so she’s a great example of the generation of crosses who may be doglike enough to be kept and considered more doggo than dingo.
