In art, just as in life, you never really stop learning. There's always something new you didn't know.
I've been meaning to do some kind of project thingy of my dinosaurs since at least 2013. All thos time I've kept saying that One Day (tm) I will make a thing out of it, and I have drawn a lot of stuff for it over the years! I've learned how dinosaurs function, how they're shaped and stuff.
There's this weekly comic drawing group in my town I've been to over this past winter/spring, mostly working on couple other projects (it's been a great excuse to get things done!) and I just now realized I could actually use it to get on with it and make the dinosaur project thingy!
So today I took my character reference folder, that's been sitting unfinished for few years now, and finally got around to start finishing stuff for it! Grandma Flying Blade is now fully sketched, with updated design and fixed anatomy and stuff.
And just today, I came to the realization that after ALL THESE YEARS I've never actually figured out what the bottom of a (raptor style) dinosaur's foot looks like.
I know they had fatty pads, but I had no clue about their shapes and sizes. The references were not easy to find either.
So that was a thing!

Felt like sketching some dinosaurs for change! Yay
First two Singing People references sketched! Got their headdresses properly designed finally.
Flying Blade will only wear hers in special occasions, while Two Feathers is likelier to hold onto hers.
The headdress is a sign of the clan's "speaker", or representative in gatherings of many clans, so these two are the only ones in their clan who have them.
I'm just really liking how these fingers turned out in the sketch, so you get to see them again. Usually the top side of Singing People's fingers is covered by short fuzz, but grandma Flying Blade is balding a bit due to her age.
(The row of small nubs at the back of the hand are what's left of the quills of her primary feathers after they've been trimmed off. She prefers her hands free.)

The Singing People often spend stationary nesting seasons crafting, which often includes making clothing from animal skins, or weaving plant fibers. Bright colors, specially greens, yellows and oranges are very popular. Flying Blade here is showing off a woven shawl and scarf, both decorated with nacre pieces and beads as well as tassels made out of the quills of their cows.
These items are usually worn on special occasions rather than everyday wear, but it's not forbidden to show off a little every now and then!

The idea of an anky tagalong with the Singing People is hilarious to me. Yeah that's Janette she likes to hang out with the cows. No she's not ours she just shows up. Why aren't we shooing her away? Are you insane? Have you SEEN her? That girl is doing whatever the hell she wants when she wants. And anyways she helps keep the giants away so who are we to complain.
Yeah!
