It appears I've gotten quite a few new followers lately, so I'm finally making a pinned post.

Hi!

First off, this is a personal blog of a former chronic art student, who's possibly a forest troll. While my art might be cute, I do not aim my material at kids (my target audience is me), so do be aware that by following this blog you run the risk of seeing things like 3am brain farts and doodles of orc boobs.

I have a chronically hyperactive imagination that has spawned multiple headworlds, including but not limited to:

The DINOSAUR PROJECT THINGY: Working title "the Herd". Follows a small clan of troodontid dinosaurs called the Singing People and their herd of cows (domesticated Einiosaurus). Based on Two Medicine formation. #the Herd #dinosaur headworld

ENTICA: At the beginning of the pandemic I resurrected an old headworld from my highschool days nearly two decades ago, and what started as a fun little nostalgia trip to my old fantasy furries has now turned into a sorta speculative evolution worldbuilding project. #Entica

ARCANTH: Working title (a name of a character) of a fantasy story thingie I want to make. Really needs a better tag, though. #Arcanth

WINGBEANS: Doodled some funny little griffin-y things. People seem to like them, and I find them fun to draw, so I keep making them. #Wingbeans

HOOF PEOPLE: A thing with centaurs, fauns and minotaurs, because I wanted to draw hooves. #hoof people

I chronicle my experiences as a pet invertebrate owner in the tag '#Bookshelf bugs'. I have a small colony of Armadillidium vulgare isopods of the Magic Potion color morph. The isopods are currently at a friend's place because I'm battling a cloth eating moth invasion, and can't have other invertebrates in case I accidentally poison them.

ALSO! With so many new followers here, it means there's a lot of people who haven't yet seen my tattoo! To remedy this, you may now bask in the glory that is the chest dinosaur! (the flowers are my mom's favourites)

Do you think there is a chance Striking Willow and Curious River will get references this go around? Or if you already made some in the past, we may get to see them this time?

I'm suuper curious about their distinct features - other than their color - and personalities.

Speaking of color, have you given any thoughts towards how wide the range of color for the Singing People is? Could there be some daark red (a-la Hoatzin) or near white with barely visible markings? Not that I think we get to see but - again - I'm so curious!

I intend to, yes!

Unsure if I'll be able to get them done this month for ArtFight (having a day job somehow uses up a huge chunk of my time, who would have thunk!), but they will be part of the redone references as I go through the pile.

Alright, color genetics!

The Singing People naturally come in widely varying shades of gray with pale/white countershading (I call it "wolf gray", because I originallycoloured them after wolves), and can have some minor "rufousing" in it via pheomelanin. There is quite a wide range when it comes to darkness of the gray, though lightly coloured individuals are more common than those with darker base colour, as the hood marking of males has more contrast and thus looks "better" or more attractive on lighter background than dark. Grandma Flying Blade is pretty pale, for example, compared to the rest of the clan.

The amount of pheomelanin is usually subtle, but there's a visible difference between Sunbird, who has basically none and is very cool, blueish gray versus Two Feathers' family who are more warm shade. They can get more brown than that, though.

Striking Willow and Curious River represent a different colour morph, or mutation, that's basically ginger version of the wild type. I'm undecided whether that's by removing eumelanin alltogether and only leaving behind pheomelanin, or if it's just turned the eumelanin from black to brown (basically black vs chocolate/liver as seen in cats and dogs).

For markings, female Singing People also often have some faint mottling that usually forms vague stripes across their backs, and male Singing People have solid dark hood marking, that has a orange-yellow stripe on top (produced by pheomelanin, with some help from carotenoids).

Also, as a small bonus, Two Feathers displays a minor case of piebaldism. It gets mostly lost in her countershading, but she has a small white bib under her throat and there's some white on her chest, that mostly manifests in a hard edge between the white of her underbelly and the gradient dray of her neck, the back half of the marking disappears into the countershading.

ArtFight attack number 3! (Yaaaaay, I got to my minimum goal, and the month isn't even halfway through yet!)

Verso, a wolf who can grow any kinds of leaves from any part of their body, for Pyttis.

Such a neat character concept! Also exactly something I needed at work. Had a few minutes of thumb twiddling, because someone needed to borrow my computer (technically ot was their computer that I was using but still), and wanted to fill the time by doodling. Remembered coming across this character earlier, and if there's one thing I can draw off the top of my head without the need to dig up references, it's wolves. Also monstera leaves because A: I like them, and B: I have a bunch tattooed across my legt forearm for easy referencing. Plus I think they look good, as a shade for the character!

Drawn with whatever was at hand at the moment in the warehouse: post-it note, ballpoint pen and a random green highlighter.

It's TTRPG adventure weekend time!

My roleplay group otherwise lives in relatively close by towns, but one of us is like six hour drive up north, so it was our turn, for the rest of us to have a road trip to save her the travel thos time. Arrived yesterday (the last hour or so of our drive was interesting, as we basically chased the sun towards to where it was setting, so it basically looked like it stayed still for the full hour), the first photo was taken on midnight when we finally calmed down enough to go to bed, haha!

The north friend GMd a Lego DnD adventure for us, and the rest of the day was spent trying out a starter adventure of Pathfinder. Massive amounts of fun! We'll see how far we'll get tomorrow before we'll have to leave again.

I went rogue twice! (I picked rogues for both games, out of the pre-made characters, to "have minimal amount of learning new things".)

Also two cats.

I was Very Brave and Responsible adult today and got myself stabbed with a booster vaccine for... what's the word. Tick borne brain fever? Tick-borne encephalitis, that's the term! Had to search for it.

Thankfully the next booster will be in ten years, no no more needles for a while!

Focused so much on the stabbening I didn't even remember to buy a celebratory pastry. 😂

Ah, well, I'll have to do that at a later date then.
