Drabble - Class
This drabble is going to be written in the point of view of Seifer. As I do not mun a Seifer character, I am putting this here but it will be under the cut just in case any of my followers do not want to read it.
For those that do, enjoy! :)
Seifer heard a triumphant squeal come from Dios as they successfully made it to class before the last chime of the bell, the both of them quickly clamored to their desk before Instructor Aki entered, glazing over his pupils with a stern stare.
“Okay students time to take your seats, especially you, Dincht! We are going to have a little history lesson today under the orders of Headmaster Cid.” A load groan echoed throughout the classroom. History was not a popular subject among the aspiring SeeDs, they would rather be learning about battle tactics or para-magic; but unfortunately history was par for the course.
But it did pique Seifer’s curiosity slightly, usually there was a set curriculum by the Instructors, but having a history lesson under Cid’s orders was something different indeed.
Aki audibly cleared his throat to silence the increasingly rambunctious young teens, and Seifer saw his gaze fixate on Dios. “Miss Leigh, you have for some reason been exempt from taking today’s history lesson. The headmaster would like to see you in his office, now.” There were hushed whispers throughout the classroom and Dios turned to Seifer with a confused look on her face.
“What would he need me for? I can’t recall doing anything wrong lately.”
Neither do I.
He responded to her with a shrug, moving over so she could get out.
“Whatever it is, make sure you tell me the gossip later.” His words brought a smile to her lips as she grabbed her books and shuffled across to get out, mouthing a quick ‘see you later’ before hurrying out of the room. When it was clear that she was gone, Instructor Aki began his lecture.
“I do not expect you to take notes on today’s lesson. There will be no test on this. It is more informative history than the stuff we all know and love.” An image was brought up on the large screen behind him, it was then transferred over to the terminals at the students’ desks. It was an unsettling scene, a whole village devastated by fire, charred bodies littered the streets and an eerily pristine house, seemingly untouched by the destruction, was in the middle of it all.
“This...” Aki began with a flight falter in his usually confident voice, “This, students, is the tragedy that befell Roshfall five years ago. The Witch Hunt. It all began when a band of furious Galbadian soldiers defected from the army, wanting something more from the end of the war with Sorceress Adel and Esthar. They wanted every single Sorceress dead, no matter who they killed in the process.” He paused for a moment, allowing Seifer the time to gaze around the room and he could see the fear and sadness in the eyes of his peers. He couldn’t shake that feeling either, men were responsible for this destruction, men.
“Their killings started under the radar, usually able to find the women they were after by bribing intel out of scared townspeople and slaughtering the poor souls in the darkness of the night. But they became cocky, too invested in their mission. And when they found out that a whole village was protecting the identity of a single Sorceress and her family, they decided to strike.”
More pictures appeared on the screens and Seifer heard more students gasp, some of the younger ones even began to cry. But for once, Seifer couldn’t blame them, even he had never seen images like these before. There were closeups of the charred human remains, most left eternally screaming, others were shown trying to protect their children, some were sprawled on the ground with ashen weapons in their burnt out hands. But that was nothing compared to the insides of the perfectly pristine house where there were signs of a struggle.
“We can only guess that this was the house of the Sorceress.” Aki said, “There were signs of a struggle and an unfortunate discovery was made in the kitchen.”
There was a human shaped bloodstain in the kitchen, with tiny, handprints littered around. But there was no corpse, only the dried blood remained.
“There was a powerful ‘Protect’ spell shrouding this house, keeping it from the flames destroying it’s peers. However, our SeeDs were able to dispel this barrier and found the deceased in the kitchen, promptly burying her. They also found the sole survivor of the massacre, mourning the death of her mother.” The students gasped and Seifer could not help but listen intently.
A hand shot up, curiosity got the better of Seifer and he needed to know.
“So the mother was a sorceress, right? But what about the daughter? It’s now common knowledge that a sorceress cannot peacefully pass on without transferring her powers to another woman. That means the daughter is a sorceress now, yeah? What happened to her.” He could see the look of bewilderment on Instructor Aki’s face, faced with so many questions at once.
“It’s odd to see you so invested Seifer. But unfortunately not many are made privy to that information. The child would be put in danger otherwise. To put things back on track, this failure is what put the members of the Witch Hunt into hiding. While they were successful in killing a sorceress, they were also responsible for unknowingly creating another. Even though authorities have spent these past five years looking for them, they are nowhere to be found.” Aki pressed a button, finally freeing the students of the images.
“The Galbadian government is keeping extremely tight lipped about the identites of the men who defected, so unfortunately this is all we can tell you for now.”
Seifer shot up his hand again. Something was really nagging him. Why was Dios called upon today? What was the relevance of this class if no notes were needed?
“This isn’t really a history lesson is it? It’s more of a warning, just in case they resurface.” He saw Aki’s eyes narrow as he propped an elbow on his desk.
“It wouldn’t bode well for the Galbadian government if they were to suddenly reappear. If SeeD or it’s cadets have to battle them, it will put their army to shame. This is what they can do, and if SeeD encounter them, they will be ready.” It sort of made sense to the fourteen year old, but isn’t it also something that Dios would need to know as well?
“Instructor, what about-” Aki quickly cut him off, seemingly knowing what he was going to say.
“I will speak to Miss Leigh about it later. I ask all students that you do not approach her about it as I am sure if she learns it the classic Garden Gossip way she will come out of it worse than you lot!” Aki was getting annoyed by all of Seifer’s questions, that was becoming increasingly obvious.
It was entirely suspicious, but Seifer didn’t want to probe him any more than he needed to. Even if it would bring joy to him to annoy his favourite instructor, but it did bother him that everyone was told not to tell Dios, it was almost like...
Nah... she would have told me, we’re inseparable!
