Theodoric III (980-1039) was Count of Holland from 995 to 1039.
He developed his lands by taking tribute from the merchants who came down the rivers Merwede and Meuse. He was able to prevail militarily over the Rhenish bishops, gaining for his county a broad political and commercial independence from the Holy Roman Empire.
Theodoric travelled as a pilgrim to the Holy Land. Although the date is unknown, some authors venture that it may have been in 1030.
