Invasion of the Sburbites

This was an experiment. We'll see where it goes. If you know, you know.

“Dude. How the hell are you still walking around?”

Red Hood whipped around, gun already in his hand and pointing at…

A kid. In poofy pink shorts, a short sleeved shirt with a weird heart on it, pink arm guards, and a cape. And the spikiest, stupidest looking glasses he’d ever seen outside of an anime.

Great. Some moron’s activated their meta-gene and decided to go running around as a hero. Bruce was going to lose his shit.

“Get lost, kid.” Hood growled, and the kid cocked his head to the side, face blank.

“No seriously, how’re you walking around. One good knock and your soul’s gonna fly right back out again.”

Jason’s finger seized on the trigger.

The gunshot was deafening, and the kid fell over backwards, the force of the bullet hitting him knocking him over.

Fuck.

Fuck!

Bruce was gonna kill him. He hadn’t fucking meant to do that, he’d just been some random fucking kid, probably out on his first fucking night, and he’d just- fuck!

“Shit dude, if I’d known you were that sensitive about it I wouldn’ta said anything. Goddamn.”

Jason’s mind blanked out.

The kid was fine. Standing up and brushing himself off like nothing had happened, but Jason could see the bloodstain on the ground, glistening wetly in the streetlight.

“Fucking metas.” The swear was half exasperated, half relieved. Bruce would definitely end up hearing about this, but at least he hadn’t killed a civilian.

“Look, I’m not the one to go around fixing souls and shit. I’m Miley fucking Cyrus, comin’ in like a fucking wrecking ball. You wanna get fixed, come find Nepeta or Meulin. They’ll hook you up.”

“What.” Jason’s voice was flat, even through the modulator, and the kid cocked his head at him.

“You know. Those green threads or whatever. They’re coming loose.”

Behind his mask, Jason blanched.

The kid watched him for another moment, then lifted silently into the air.

“Welp. See you around, I guess.”

And before Jason could even try to respond, the meta was gone, flying off into the night and vanishing far more effectively than he should have been able to.
