BEIFANG TUOFU 北方拓芙 expanding ⟡ lotus ⟡ of the north

i really like her chinese name - note the radical for stone (石) and hand (扌) in 拓. it's literally an earthbending word. 芙 is taken from 芙蓉, which today means the hibiscus, but historically was a name of the lotus flower, which grows out of mud and blooms pure and uncorrupted, the pinnacle of spiritual transcendence.

now i need zuko to call her tofu (#japanese pronunciation). first as light trash-talking, then as a running joke, then later he admits when they first met he thought that was her name and awkwardly assumed toph was probably some kind of earth kingdom soybean heiress :/

the concept of zuko telling toph about his time as an ordinary tea server in ba sing se with uncle iroh, how he found a sliver of stability for the first time since his banishment, and that's when he began associating the earth kingdom with peace and happiness......... the concept of toph telling zuko how running away from home to help overthrow his dad and fighting azula, combustion man, etc inadvertently made her begin associating the fire nation with her own liberation and power......
