Achieving a Deep Polish on Marble Floor Tiles in Reigate, East Surrey
The photographs below are of a Marbled Tiled floor that was installed over much of the ground floor of a cottage that formed part of a large county estate near Reigate. The Marble floor tiles were lovely however the polish and sealer had worn off some time ago and the were now looking much worse for wear, additionally the once white grout had turned dark with dirt and I`m not sure even the owner realised its full potential. I provided a quote for cleaning and applying a deep polishing to the floor which was agreed and set a date to do the work. Marble Tile and Grout Cleaning in Reigate After protecting the wooden skirting with tape, I started the cleaning process by applying a medium dilution of Tile Doctor Pro-Clean which was scrubbed into the tiles using a stiff brush to remove any loose dirt and debris from the floor but primarily along the grout lines. The soiled cleaning solution was then rinsed off with water and then extracted with a wet vacuum. Next step was to deep clean the tiles and bring back the polish using a set of four Tile Doctor diamond encrusted honing pads which fit a weighted rotary floor buffer and are applied in sequence starting with the 400-grit pad lubricated with water. Grout is made up of three things. Cement, sand, and water. Unless you have unsanded grout, which is made up of cement with latex and polymers. So the cement is what makes grout so absorbent to liquid and dirt.
So basically what happens when you have a dirty floor is you usually sweep or vacuum and get rid of dirt and dust. But that only takes care of so much. After doing this step you mop or use a steamer to clean the floors. Well what happens is once water hits that grout it absorbs it like a sponge and takes in any left over dirt that was left on the tile and grout. And by mopping everything around, you are actually distributing this mix of dirty water and germs all over your flooring and into the grout lines. Multiply this by days and weeks and months, and eventually the grout lines become full of dirt and germs just like a sponge, except you cannot rinse the grout or buy a new one at wally world in a package like sponges.

First step is sweeping and vacuuming dust and debris, second is taping off appliances and other areas depending on the cleaning solution being used. Third is to pre spray all the areas and scrub the grout lines with a specifically designed grout brush to release all those years of dirt and grime being pushed into those poor grout lines. Then they use equipment to rinse and extract the cleaning solution and dirt and grime. All that’s left is for the areas to dry and then seal the grout if desired.
Most of our customers are usually getting their tile and grout cleaned just to sell their home, so they skip the sealant, but if you are keeping your home, we highly recommend to seal your grout after cleaning. Imagine cleaning your driveway and it looks great, but you forgot to seal it and a friend comes over and his car leaks oil everywhere.
