Producer, DJ and Rinse FM host, with releases on Black Butter, Southern Fried and Buygore, Marc Thomas, aka Marco del Horno, launched his own label Bullet Train in 2008. Providing a much-needed platform for new talent, Bullet Train was forged on the ideal that within an ever-changing musical landscape, the label would always strive to be on the front foot; breaking and pushing sounds, rather than simply following the latest trends. “Right from the start, I never wanted to sign records that sounded like they were made ten to fifteen years ago. We all know that dance music is cyclical, but what’s important is that when something comes back round again, we’re building on that sound and pushing it forward, not just re-hashing old records” affirms Marco. It’s a model that worked and Bullet Train is now a hugely respected independent label, seen by many (especially the majors) as the go-to for new and exciting UK talent. Over a glorious five years, Bullet Train has released house, electro and bass productions and remixes from the likes of Bondax (Sony), Rusko (Mad Decent), Roska (Rinse), S.P.Y (Metalheadz) and Scratcha DVA (Hyperdub), alongside Last Japan and Shift K3y, both of whom appeared on the first Allstars release and were then promptly snapped up by RCA and Columbia respectively. Despite leaving a bit of a hole in the roster, Marco explains this is part of the plan, “We’re proud to provide a breeding ground for new talent; nothing makes me happier than to see these artists develop their craft, build a fanbase and make the big step into a major label set-up - that’s what we’re all about.“ Firmly focused on the future, Marco now welcomes a whole new batch of exciting talent to the Bullet Train stable, all of whom feature on Allstars Vol II. First up are Cause & Affect - now also releasing on Claude Von Stroke’s Dirtybird label, this Midlands duo are being heralded as the face of the new, emerging bass / house hybrid sound.
