Over the course of this semester I have learnt much in the way of beat making and the operations of Ableton. Due to this constant learning state and trying out different approaches my original proposal for Creative Audio has evolved and into something entirely different. Originally my proposal looked at the idea of cross-talk, when two radio frequencies would intersect to create a unique mix of music and vocals, and how to present that idea to a public audience. However, as I worked more with Ableton I found myself drawn to the process of making beats or short tracks that didn’t always link together, their genres were mixed and blurred but lead to some interesting discoveries. After playing my mess of tracks to the class someone mentioned the beginning sounded like techno music and Clint recommended I looked into the emerging genre of dirty techno. Therefore, my proposal moved away from the cross-talk idea and became more about experimenting with the dirty techno genre and the platform (Ableton) that I was creating on. My revised proposal is as follows:
Using the platform of Ableton, experimenting with the genre of dirty techno. Doing research into the genre to inform some of the process but still adding my own sense of style to the work. By the end of this semester I would like to have a few tracks that fall within this genre but still push its boundaries using the tools available to me in Ableton.
