Journal Entry #4 - Disaster Risk Management
the possibility of suffering harm or injury.
a person or thing that is likely to cause harm or injury.
the possibility of something unwelcome or unpleasant.
The talk started with an ice breaker called “Smash” that was pretty fun and the speaker related it to the discussion topic for this week. You need to work with other people and prepare yourselves for what’s always coming, no matter how pleasant or unpleasant it is.
Disaster has always been something related to hazards, and it isn’t natural thus we aim to minimize them as much as possible by being knowledgeable enough to prepare ourselves. There were four factors that affects disaster management namely: Hazard, Exposure, Vulnerability, and Capacity. Along these factors, climate change is also a huge factor when it comes to these disaster preparedness.
Talking about the topic this week was quite a nostalgia of Senior High School’s subject Disaster Risk Reduction and Management. It was the same thing but in a more specific discussion wherein effects of such disasters could have brought another kind of disaster to the place. And even the factors that were mentioned; it clearly marked my mind that people cannot just leave their livelihood and belonging in the place making it difficult for them to evacuate and find an alternative living.
And with this week’s discussion, it made me realize people are just looking for safety and security with what’s happening to this world of ours. It’s quite the sorrow that some people does not experience that kind of assurance that they will be protected from the disastrous events we cannot control.
Ending this journal entry with a jam of what we should feel after always preparing ourselves to possible disasters.
