one of these days I’m gonna dig up research and citations and write a whole goddamn thesis to back up my profound irritation with people phrasing “anyone can be a witch, regardless of gender” as “witchcraft is gender neutral.”

does anyone else think it’s kinda funny that
one of the archetypical powers of a witch, at least in European traditions, is the ability to blight farms and livestock, a sort of anti-fertility power (’fertility’ in the sense of human reproduction has a super-strong association with ‘fertility’ in the sense of a bountiful harvest)
witchcraft often got tied up with sexual taboos/’spinster’ archetypes/the super-common cross-cultural association of sexual or gender ambiguity with the supernatural and with uncanny perception...
and then early Wicca, with its agenda of ‘cleaning up’ witchcraft and showing that Real Witches Never Use Magic to Harm and all that shit... rebrands witchcraft as a fertility cult and, as a ‘natural’ corollary, makes it super heterosexual and gender-reifying...
I just think it’s kinda funny is all
clairannoyance (n, abstract uncountable)
the uncanny ability to tell someone is a piece of shit before they actually pull the dick move. does not count if positive evidence is unavailable- the unverifiable conviction that someone’s an asshole is just a prejudice.
Ex.: Her URL wasn’t overtly about being a TERF but you know me and my clairannoyance, I can just tell. It took me like three seconds to find still-hot-and-steaming transmisogynistic garbage on her blog.
