Discovery Task 2:

When it comes to being me, the question about Pansexuality comes up a lot. So here it is explained.

This task took me about three and a half hours to complete from start to finish. When I started I had no idea what I wanted to draw, and as far as what style I wanted to draw in I was clueless. I took a lot of my time figuring out a concept, and then how I wanted to portray that concept.

If I could do it again I would space my text better so the overall effect was neater. Otherwise I am fairly happy with the outcome

Discovery Task 4

Well, this was simple. I decided to illustrate my own frustrations drawing for this class. The process was a lot simpler. It is easier to undo on a computer. I didn’t include too much of myself, as Mccloud was saying, an actual person really isn’t as inviting as a comic.

Discovery Task 8:

I know I’ve fallen a bit off the wagon with discovery tasks, and getting back into it was hard. Especially with this one for me. As I’ve said before I am a perfectionist, but when it comes to collages being messy with purpose is embraced. So I tried to let myself go a little crazy with it.

I wanted the panels to be a road map, since that’s not quite traditional, and took the collage theme to heart and broke out the mod podge and magazines. Part of the story and collage is the canvas I chose to work with itself. The paper is my old server notebooks glued together to signify my past and how I have embraced change, as much as I fear it.

This task took me 3 hours to complete and I am not sure how I feel about the outcome. I like the idea of a collage better than I can execute it I think. I wished I could have visually represented more of what I wrote. I will use aspects of this method moving foward I think. I kinda like the freeness the different canvas gave me, but it also had its own challenges.

Discovery Task 4:

This task was both easy and hard. I love photography, but I also tend to be more critical of my photos than of my drawings. It was hard for me to decide on a theme and feeling without feeling the need to go all out for it, so I went with something funny to try and take the pressure off. This took me around 1 and 1/2 hours, just because I was fighting with myself over the topic I wanted to tackle.

So I decided to portray the feeling you get when you have to get up and go to work and you are feeling decent when you get out the door and then realize in your haste you forgot something.

Discovery Task 3:

This task took a lot of deliberation on my part. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go with something light and simple, or difficult subject matter. As you can see I went difficult. The idea came to me in class, and I was struggling to decide whether my drawing skills would be good enough to tackle it. This issue has deeply affected me personally and I really wanted to bring it justice.

I took 4 hours to plan, draw, trace, and color this comic. I decided to go subject to subject for my panel transitions and I think that worked very well in this case. I wish I was more adept at drawing people and could have added more real to life depictions of the march and other panels. I think I took a risk with the layout of my panels being read in a circular motion, but it was important to me to show the cycle and the chains that surround it. I chose to add one word to the comic in the form of “Bill” as I thought it was necessary to clarify the nature of the document.

The pulse logo in the center is there because that is the shooting that started the ongoing discussion we have now, and it is the one that affected me the most. Their are 17 candles in the vigils/memorial panel to represent the 17 that died at MSD because that shooting affected my friends and then impacted me as well.

So I took to drawing a trail near my house. I wanted to do both a wide view and details, so the top panels set the scene and the bottom ones show closer details I saw. There was a lot to see, so I just tried to draw the most striking images. Trees are just simple lines so I can focus on the important details. Overall, I’m not sure if the panels connect to feel like a singular location

Discovery Task 8: Collage Comic

So for this one I tried to make a story out of the card faces. The collage format does make you look at the world differently, how you can make things into something new. But in this task I felt kind of limited. I had to find something else to work off of, I couldn't just make something from scratch like normal. I probably wouldn’t use this format again.

Discovery Task 3

My second comic. I tried doing something with the panels like I’ve seen in the book. I also learned how hard it is to draw doorknobs.
