Cohen the Barbarian and the The Return of the Silver Horde is one of my favourite discworld collaborations between Sir Terry and Paul Kidby.

Another reason why I love Terry Pratchett is the fact that his most well known and strongest female characters is Granny Weatherwax. She's an old, traditional, disapproving lady, the type that are normally depicted as the antithesis of everything related to strong female characters. The thing is, she's a respected, experienced women, who people listen to. Instead of playing her off as an antagonist, or even just a naysayer of the brave heroine, she's a strong, independant woman in her own right.
You have so many of the other Discworld characters who would be seen as more traditional "Strong female characters" like Nanny Ogg, Agnes Nitt, Eskarina Smith, and Magrat Garlick, but Granny Weatherwax stands out to me as being the most unique, especially considered how such a character is usually seen.
Seriously, if you want good characters, read Discworld.
