Got a stroke of #goodluck - Had just left the #bistibadlands & was heading South when some #navajos in a pickup truck pulled out in front of me and slowed to 10 miles under the speed limit. As soon as passing was allowed, I started to pass & noticed oncoming traffic. Had plenty of room but the Navajos hit the gas to try & prevent me from passing. - One of the oncoming vehicles was a Navajo cop for the #navajonation. - He hit his lights & pulled me over. I explained I was going the speed limit, but these yahoos we're going really slow, then hit the gas right when I tried to pass. - He took my registration, license & insurance as he went to call it in. After, he proceeded to fill out a ticket. - I said, "Sir, could you please give me a break on this? I've had some rotten luck with rain, ruined phone, flooded tent, etc. and I sure could use a little break around now. - He asked me to explain why I though I deserved a break. I told him that I'm coming up on 7000 miles on this trip & rarely even went the speed limit. Mostly close to the posted limit & have been a safe rider for the most part. That he should give me a break because I recognize that I made a mistake in judgement. That even though that other driver hit the gas, that I'm not in such a hurry that causing an accident would be warranted, that I was really sorry. - He asked where I was coming from and I said #dispersecamping in the #BLM #bistibadlands. He asked where I was going and I said I'm on my way back to Texas, but that I wanted to get some pie first 😎. - He looked at me, and looked at my bike, then handed me the #citation and said "I'm giving you a break. This is just a warning. It says no further action required. Be careful of the other drivers out on these back roads. The people out here are not courteous of other drivers & will get you killed." - I think he knew what they'd done, but he said I should bailed on the passing instead of going for it.
