Day 19: The In-Between

What first piqued my interest: Honestly, I’ve seen so many cool posts with excerpts, mood boards, and worldbuilding details, I’m not sure how I first got pulled into this one. But I stayed for the sibling shenanigans, snappy dialogue, and Epic Paranormal Event(s).

What I want to learn more about: What caused the shift? What happened to Baby when she disappeared? How will the Arroyo kids navigate their familial relationship after five very hard years of separation? And how concerned do I need to be about this “character death” tag? 😟

What I’m excited about: Did I mention SIBLING SHENANIGANS?? Baby, Teejay, and Peach are all fully realized, charismatic characters, and I’m super excited to see how they change and grow. Also, I love me some shady government/military organizations I definitely didn’t write one of those myself or anything

Sea shell, pirates and frogs. XD Amazing!! And the frogs actually make a lot of sense, because I absolutely adore amphibians and reptiles~

For you! I get weird dark supernatural occurrences (aka The In-between stuff), SIBLING CHARACTERS, and AWESOME HECKIN’ CHARACTER ART.

So Seri MIGHT want to rewind her life to before when she signed the contract that started the whole story??? During the parts of the story I have shared she might. But she definitely has the whole “Into The Unknown” thing going where she now HAS her magic and like. wants to learn more but also wants normal but is just. CONFUSED. (Afterward she definitely would not want to rewind but I can’t explain why bc spoilers)

But the main one I thought of was Hikari, Hikari DEF would want to rewind back to the time when they *static noises bc spoilers lol*

storyteller saturday! which of the four elements do you associate with each of the main cast of Aurora Hearts and why? -ditzysworld

Happy belated STS!!!

Oh Ditzy this is... an easy AND hard question... because on one hand all of the Aurora Hearts girls have elements already assigned to them (their powers are elemental) but on the other hand, elements work a little differently in AH canon as there’s eight elements there. So I’m gonna do a little adjusting, as well as mention what each girl has in canon!

Marise’s canonical elements are fire and life. So that’s easy enough, in a four-element situation, she’s just going to continue to be fire. It’s very fitting for her, I think.

Ainsley’s canonical elements are water and air. Though in story, she leans slightly more towards using her air powers, I think if I had to assign an element to her personality it’d be water.

Noelle’s elements in the canon are light and earth, so we’ll keep her as earth. However, if I weren’t trying to balance this out? I might say fire again. Her soul is very firey.

Lara’s canon elements are time and space. She gets air, partially cause it fits her and partially because that’s what’s left.

Director Agnor canonically has control of all four traditional elements and so we’re just going to keep going with that because she’s badass like that.

🖊tell me more about Marise! -ditzysworld

Marise Gaumont is probably the most downright fun character I’ve ever written. Marise is 24 years old and has two different jobs: video game critic and badass magical soldier for a secret organization dedicated to saving the world. She’s a little grumbly about the second job, but her personality is surprisingly optimistic, and she doesn’t complain TOO much, preferring to make the best of her fate.

She’s a very hard person to pin down. She’s got no common sense, rushes into things, sometimes can’t put two and two together when they’re right in front of her, she’s lazy as can be, and is absolutely oblivious to romantic advances. At the same time, she’s a master at reading people, highly intelligent, flirty and witty, and physically fit (she loves running, though hates walking, and she’s been doing self defense and martial arts for over half her life). How do they all exist together? God only knows. She’s wild. 

Marise’s the eldest of five. All the kids in her family were adopted, though she’s her mom’s biological kid... her dad adopted her though after her biological dad left soon after her birth. Being the eldest of a big family means Marise is good with kids and genuinely enjoys being around them, which may account for her childish demeanor at times.

Also, Marise has some amount of feelings for Ainsley. Has she realized this? No, she’s oblivious as anything. Good luck, Ainsley.

happy STS! what crossover would you love to see between your WIP and something else (whether it be another one of your WIPs, someone else's WIP, or an existing piece of media)? -ditzysworld

─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ ─ A good question! I’ll go to Unknown for this one! I like to go see a Supernatural crossover with my WIP if we’re talking about an existing piece of media. If we’re going for someone else’s WIP, it’s every single WIP out there. If my own, Unknown and By My Side would be an interesting crossover, despite them being in different universes yet in the same universe. If that makes sense?

happy STS! if the very first versions you created of your OCs could meet the current versions of themselves, how do you think the meeting would go? -ditzysworld

Oh boy… so! For context, Interpolation started off as an alternate universe short story of a roleplay one of my friends and I did, which was in itself a spinoff/prequel of a Dungeons and Dragons campaign with a couple other friends that then fell through. In all three of those (the story, the one on one rp, and the campaign), Astaroth and Merloch were VERY different. In Interpolation, Astaroth’s a black hole and Merloch is a star… in the one on one, Astaroth is a star and Merloch is a black hole… and in the original version? Astaroth is a sentient sword and Merloch is a sentient cloak.

I think sword!Ast meeting black hole!Ast would be WILD. Sword Ast is over a thousand years older, and she is technically… not BAD end Ast, but WORSE end Ast. She became a sword after her relationship with Merloch was discovered and she was cast out of star society and left to die. In the years after it, she tempered a bit. She’s become wiser and more patient, but also more assertive. The way that astrals (the combined word for stars and black holes) age, sword!Ast is around the maturity level of a human who’s 44 years old as far as wisdom and knowledge go, while Ast in Interpolation is only around 24 or so. So basically, sword!Ast is going to be a little embarrassed at what interpolation!Ast gets up to. Interpolation!Ast is mostly going to be very, very weird at the idea of a version of herself that was a star.

Merloch is a little harder because she’s not originally my character, but rather my dear friend’s OC who I have permission to use. However, cloak!Merloch had amnesia, to the point where she couldn’t even remember that her name was her name (she remembered the name Merloch, but thought it was a warlock patron of some sort, when in reality it’s just her!). So for her to MEET the Merloch whose name she remembers… I think she’d be in awe and a bit humbled at first, which would slowly disappear as she realizes that interpolation!Merloch is basically a big conceited kid. Interpolation!Merloch would absolutely EAT THAT UP. She loves praise, so she’d bask in cloak!Merloch’s admiration until she couldn’t anymore. Once it had faded, I personally believe the two would bicker. A lot. The Asts would have to play peacekeeper.

7. What do they want more than anything?

At the beginning of the story (not chapter one or two beginning but say, like chapter four or five?) what Winnie wants is a girlfriend who she really connects to and feels comfortable with.

By the end of the story, what Winnie wants is for her life to regain some semblance of normality and stability, for [spoiler], and still for a girlfriend if she’s really being honest.

8. Why can’t they have it?

On the girlfriend note: Winnie doesn’t have enough confidence in herself. It’s driving people off, and she doesn’t notice because she’s too busy beating herself up! Luckily, her character arc is going to deal with that... hopefully.

The rest of the stuff she wants is thwarted mostly because there’s an apocalypse going on and it’s kind of screwing with the idea of a routine.

18. Do you have any images or scenes in your mind already?

Absolutely! Some of the ones you can look forward to include:

A tender and passionate kiss between Mercedes and Winnie

Alice being SUCH a little sister, by which I mean a brat, during a day when they’re snowed in

Apocalyptic road trip

Cadeau’s introduction (it has many weapons)

Winnie coming face to face with the Death Queen, who is the primary antagonist of this novel.
