DIVA KARR-UNTIL I DIE
Chaotic, noisy, and unsettling experimental black metal.
new music is SLLLLLOOOOOOOOWWWWWW in 2026
I feel like it's all growers and disappointments except for a couple of releases, those being
Diva Karr
There's been a few decent dissonant releases so far, but this one is the best thing I've heard in 2026. Black metal and noise that does no overstay it's welcome at all. Also, go fig, I had never heard of this band before February.
Fossilization
As for bands I already love, Fossilization were the main one to really come through in 2026.
A Knife In the Dark
. .for some reason this is only on streaming. ?!?!?!?
what's up with streaming only releases, bruv??
A Knife In the Dark sound like Jesus Piece, to the point I wondered if it was the remaining members of Jesus Piece (you know their singer left, right? what the fuck?! 2025 hardcore drama was ridiculous . . .although I guess it doesn't top 2026, does it?) ("IT VASSH SHELF DEFENSCH! HE VASSSH GOINK TO KILL ME, HE TOLDT A GUY").
Turns out it's former members of the Burning Wind? Lemme tell ya, you should really hear that band.
This was the first great metalcore release of 2026, since a certain mathcore band decided to let their guitarist flex his top 40 cleans all over their record. . . . . (Chamber fans is some OVHoes, btw)
ooh, my people dropped today
you know this band, right?
My band share a guitarist with them. It's got Will that used to be in Artificial Brain. jam it right now.
( . . .also, my band, Thaetas . . . um . . . .you might have heard something recently, but that will all be confirmed soon)
Dir en grey?
hey, Mortal Downer is FINE. It's B-side is superior to it's A-side (to the point people on Reddit are making alternative tracklists). It's got zero blast beats, and is overall too slow, but every song from "the devil in me" on is pretty awesome. Also, their gang vocals are still top notch. all the Japanese hardcore bands need to call them. All the American hardcore bands need to call them. Dir en grey gang vocals sound like an army. It's 5 guys. More accurately, it's 4 guys responding to one guy and you feel like it's 600 guys out for your head. The best 5 guys to get in a booth to shout your slogan, your hook, your "I COULD NEVER SWALLOW YOUR FALSE IDEALS OF A LIFELESS HAPPY ENDING" equivalent (ps - the Poison the Well is FINE.) is Dir en grey. You see how I still manage to gush about these people even though the album I'm talking about is not on par with the last two?
This year is slow.
. . . . .I wonder if people were given a warning that Neurosis was coming back with Aaron Turner
"Aaron Turner just joined Neurosis and they're dropping in 2026. Don't try very hard"
Converge - "okay . . . "
(hey, maybe Hum of Hurt will be better)
Somewhere, there is someone who back in 2022 when the awful news was announced uttered this genius prolific phrase, mostly in jest due to believing in their heart of hearts that it would never happen "you know what? they should just get Aaron from Isis".
. . . .and then 4 years later, "NeurIsis", a genre that was coined by some people that saw 18 similar sounding bands popping up over the course of several years, literally came true.
. .and it might be the only good memory anybody has of 2026.
like the deadguy (or Dripping, or Acid Bath) reunion in 2025.
"that year fucking sucked ass . . . .ooh, but remember that Neurosis album? that was sick. The only reason I'm glad I did not die before 2026 is that Neurosis album."
um. . what else. . .
Boldy James and E L U C I D did damn good.
Earl?
look, he's in that $uicideboy$ tier of rap where they've made upwards of 1 perfect album and I'm not going to drag them if they drop something I don't like.
anyway
I know April fucking sucks.
keep your head up out there. or don't.
you don't have to.
-svvan
ps - I'm probably gonna have to do a post about EPs, because this year has been better for EPs
DIVA KARR / GUDSFORLADT | SPLIT (full split)
Split [2020] | black metal | USA
Some more blackened grindcore, with hints of harsh noise. I’ve listened to it again now and i don’t like it as much as the first time around because it’s less chaotic than i remembered. If you liked Witchhunt, this’ll be right up your alley as well. Highlight: Sorrow & Wind FFO: Wake, maybe Dendritic Arbor
Radio appearance tonight 8/10
Me and the rest of Diva Karr will be on 104.9 WRBB in Boston between 9-10pm tonight. Check it out for some gross jams
