This is another Mariah performance for the history books. I LOVE Patti Labelle because she isn’t insecure and she let Mariah whistle. According to rumors during Divas Live many of the performers did not want Mariah doing whistle notes and it was confirmed that Diana Ross REALLY did not want that to happen. It was only with Patti that Mariah was allowed to show her full vocal potential. They didn’t overpower one another. This shows how range (Mariah) and raw power (Patti) don’t have to be at odds with one another. At the 1:35 mark where Patti belts and Mariah scream-whistles .... has to be like ... part of music history in all schools lol ICONIC
