I'm a veteran graphic designer who just dived in to the world of vexillology. Thoughts on my Salt Lake City redesign?
from /r/vexillology Top comment: Symbolism: This flag represents growth, peace, industry, our indigenous roots, and our local landscape. The sego lily represents growth, being a flower that flourishes in our harsh desert climate and nourished the early settlers. Salt Lake City is a city that is ever growing, physically and culturally, just like the sego lily. Our lake may be stagnant but our city is anything but. At the center of the lily is a six-pointed star, representing Salt Lake City as the crossroads of the west and capital of the state. The golden circle surrounding the lily represents the sun, a symbol central to the traditions of the indigenous tribes native to this area. The white lower fess represents the salt of our namesake lake, and is the color of peace. The light blue fess with four mountain peaks represents the water of the great lake, and a peak for each of the four tribes that have called this valley home: Paiute, Goshute, Shoshone, and Ute. The navy fess represents liberty and the vast sky that we are all united under. Additionally, the gold harkens to the color of the industrious bees’ honey. Edit: Thanks to u/SLC_Flag_Project for introducing me to the word "fess" and inspiring much of this design. Would love to see your design submission as our new flag!
