So I caved and watched Divergent.
Gotta say, I really liked it. I didn't stop the movie once! I know! That's saying something right?
There was some trepidation going into this movie (as there is in all book-to-film movies), so I was nervous and worried about, not only the story, but also the characters and the actors portraying them. I was really relieved that everyone involved did a great job with all the characters.
Jai Courtney was EXCELLENT as Eric. So, so good. Those piercings and tattoos? They were totally workin' for him, okay? I'm shallow. Don't judge.
I'm officially in love with Shailene Woodley (I can't wait to see her and Ansel Elgort in TFioS now!).
Theo James as Four. Guh.
Maggie Q continues to be absolutely flawless. I think a piece of her scene with Tris got cut out of my DL, which made me angry and sad at the same time. I really wanted more Tori.
I liked Zoe Kravitz as Christina, but there wasn't a lot of time to establish who the other initiates were and for there to be a lot of bonding to be done. So I think they Tris/Christina friendship lacked a bit in that sense.
Miles Teller did a wonderful job of embodying Peter. I absolutely HATED him. I mean, I hated the dude in the books, but seeing that asshole come to life was terrible in a really great way. I still hate book!Peter more though.
I don't even have to talk about Kate Winslet. Love her.
Ashley Judd and Tony Goldwyn were great as Tris' parents.
There were some details that got left out and friendships I wish had been fleshed out a lot more (some of it felt...rushed?, but I understand making a book into a movie has it's obstacles), but overall the movie was really well done and stayed relatively true to the book.
I wish I could have seen this in the theater, but it was enjoyable enough from home too. :)
