Next up on my lovely Hawaiian #givebooks list this year is Ordinary ‘Ohana by Lee Cataluna with illustrations by Cheyne Gallarde. In just 32 cheerful, colorful, matter-of-fact pages, this outstandingly inclusive book manages to discuss hānai, divorce, chronic illness, aging, queer people, disabilities, and long-distance relationships! It’s intended for youngish readers, to be sure, but I know more than a small handful of adults who could probably stand to gain some perspective and empathy by perusing this one. 🌺🌈🤙🏼📖 #diversebooksmatter

I always try to #givebooks to the young people in my life, and one of the very best things about the first Christmas after a relocation to a new corner of the country or world is the opportunity to discover lovely local stories and get them into the hands of faraway friends and family. Today, I’m going to gram some glimpses of the new Hawaiian favorites I’ve been sending out this year.
