The thresher shark is known for its distinctive long tail which can be as long as the shark's body. Their long, whip like tail, can be used to herd and stun schools of small fish, their primary prey. Observing thresher sharks in their natural habitat is a popular activity for divers. Their populations are declining, and they are listed as vulnerable or endangered on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List.
