This song was a big US hit for The Soup Dragons, a nerdy UK band who changed their image from cardigan-sporting, horn-rammed glasses wearers to long-haired Times Square dirtbags circa 1990. I always thought the double record-skid sound—the song’s aural trademark—was a record, but upon close listening when I got this the other week, it turns out it’s a guitar slide and a massive kick drum. Kudos to the engineer!
