In honor of International Jazz Day – what better than ‘Just Jazz’, artist Moe Brooker’s hand painted 28 laminated glass panel artwork at the LIRR Wyandanch station’s parking structure. The expressive brush strokes add a vibrancy that is an exciting counterpoint to the tower’s geometric architecture. At five stories high, the colorful work is an inviting and welcoming beacon particularly when illuminated at night. The artwork reflects the jazz inspired rhythms and movement that Brooker cites as influencing his free flowing work. Jazz is part of the community’s history as well, with many musicians making their homes here, including jazz legend, John Coltrane, one town over, in Dix Hills. Brooker’s abstract work has passages that evoke exuberance as well as reflection and is a fitting tribute to the music it honors.
