DIY Speedlight Grid
Last week, I was doing some window shopping online. I was looking for a speedlight grid. The cheapest I saw was the Honl Gridspot that cost around P2,700. The thing is that, it wasn’t cheap and I don’t want to spend that much for a grid.
So today, I decided to make one on my own. A DIY Speedlight Grid.
Here are the materials I used:
- Black Straw (P20)
- Illustration Board (P30)
- Glue (P15)
- Cutter (I have one at home)
- Electrical Tape (P30)
- Ruler (I have one at home)
- Velcro (P10)
First: I cut the straws into 2cm length (it throws light roughly around 30º spread)
Second: I measured my flash (Nikon SB-800) to get the measurement for the frame and added another 2inches before cutting the illustration board.
Third: Glued the straws together.
Fourth: Glued the frame together along with the straws.
Fifth: I wrapped the outer part of the frame with the electrical tape (just to make it look nice)
Sixth: Added Velcro so I can attach it to my flash
FINISHED PRODUCT:
All it took was around P105 (P2, 595 saved), and a little bit of time and patience. The best thing about it is that IT WORKS! I’ll be posting some sample shots using the grid when I have time.
