the great thing about ben is that he's a legacy character with many family connections. he always has a place on the show, unlike callum.
and bcus of that, i think max would come back without tony there as hes friends with others in the cast. i dont think hes gonna say no to filming scenes with gillian and steve!(especially as they are getting older and may decide to quit within the next few years)
and yes, i'd like to see ben with a new partner played by an actor who can acually act. max is totally comfortable with kissing men onscreen so its important to find an actor thats also comfortable.
im just so over the ballum fandom wrapping tony in cotton wool. he's a grown man with average to poor acting ability. he is not entitled to a job on the show. he hasnt quit eastenders as he knows he will struggle to land an acting job. time for wadey to put an end to his misery.
dont care much for callum. boring charscter. played by weak actor. only on the show because of ben. time to get rid!
Fair enough anon. I go back and forth so I can't say I disagree.
I don't know if it will happen though, for a few reasons.
I think when push comes to shove, they could easily get rid of him but I don't know if that's a choice they would make unless they felt it really was time.
I should say, I don't think anyone on the show is entitled to be there just because they're employed. I see a lot of discourse about how it's wrong to want people to be fired just because people want X or Y character gone.
That's just stupid. I mean, if we lived under a government that guaranteed full employment for everyone I'd be ecstatic, but that's not what people mean.
They mean, for some reason, it's wrong to want characters gone. Why? Should the BBC keep characters that are unpopular or not delivering anything indefinitely? If it is wrong to want actors to get cut from the show, where does that leave us? An ever-expanding cast until the BBC employs every actor in the country and there are hundreds or thousands of characters on the roster who don't do anything?
Sometimes people are so sophistic in their thinking.
I think Tony has given a lot to the show and I appreciate what he has given to Ballum. But he is an actor. I don't know him personally. He's not my friend. He's a person playing a character I USED to enjoy watching, and now find excruciating to see.
So if he goes, that's life. In fact, if I want Callum to go, that's no reflection on my feelings about Tony.
Here's a hot tip for the next EP since surely Wadey isn't long in the job now.
Reunite Callum with Ben if you can, and if you can't then get Callum gone. He's never going to work without Ben.
It shouldn't even need to be said because it was painfully obvious that Callum was only going to work with Ben. Without Ballum, he's nothing.
But apparently this was a lesson Wadey and the show needed to learn the hard way.
And it's not a soulmate thing I'm talking about here. I'm talking about how Callum is such a non-entity that it would be impossible to pair him with anybody else and for it to actually matter.
Tbf, I think the plan was for Ben to come back and this affair shit to be part of that story, but it doesn't matter. It's failed at every level. Nothing about any of this has worked. They ruined Ballum for nothing and put Callum into an even more precarious position than before.
Whatever their intent here, it has not worked. Not for Ben, not for Ballum, not for Callum, not for anybody.
Never try this again.
