Today is the last day to download "Home Game" off Waxahatchee's upcoming tape reissue. All artist proceeds go to Philly’s "First Times The Charm," an annual event hosted by DIY PHL that "encourages the creation of music from women, queer people, trans people, and people of color."
The PA Share Toolkit is a chance to figure out how to make this happen in your community. This model is inspired by DIY PHL in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Hey y'all. Just wanted to point out this part of our mission statement and ask for your help: "We do our best to exclude events with bands, performers, and venues that promote, condone, or willfully ignore racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, and any form of malicious exclusion or intimidation." We try to keep an eye on what's going on within the greater DIY community, but we don't know of a lot of the bands that are submitted to DIY PHL for inclusion on the calendar and might not know if they're problematic. If you ever see a band, venue, or promotor listed that makes you feel uncomfortable, we would love for you to call it to our attention so we can remove them. Just email [email protected]. Thanks.

Get Involved with Girls Rock Philly!
Do you know about Girls Rock Philly? They exist solely because of volunteers - you should sign up right now to be a mentor to a bunch of rad girls this summer! They have year-round after school programming but need a lot of volunteers for two summer camp sessions where campers (age 9-18) pick an instrument, form a band, write a song, and perform it at a concert all within one week! If you've never seen what GRP does, you should check it out. It's much more than a music camp - campers attend cool workshops on things like self defense, comics, gender identity, freestyle hip hop, history of women in music through karaoke, etc! They learn to speak up, to support each other, and to advocate for themselves. It's huge and important. You should get involved!
LAVA is one of the few all ages, accessible spaces in Philly. Consider chipping in some time this weekend to help them make some repairs and improvements to their space. Places like this exist because of community involvement. If you've gone to a show there or booked a show there, help out!
“Join LAVA for a much needed weekend of Spring Cleaning March 26th-29th! Despite much financial drama this winter (being robbed of thousands of dollars, pipes bursting, water damage through multiple floors) Lava is fortunate enough get some funding from the local Time Exchange program! We have about $2,000 worth of projects to get done this weekend so we need as many volunteers as possible, even an hour would help! A little overview of activities – Thursday (26th) volunteers can help do demolition and sorting/organizing work, Friday (27th) volunteers can help mend our exterior wall, Saturday (28th) volunteers can help us fix up our bathrooms and make them wheelchair accessible, and finally Sunday (29th) volunteers can help tie up loose ends of the many projects and help paint a mural that will face Lancaster Ave! We need folks that have experience in mending exterior walls, installing drywall, painting murals, doing demo work but we mostly just need people willing to learn and assist those who are coordinating these huge projects! Each day folks will be meeting up at Lava Space (4134 Lancaster Ave) at noon or earlier. There will be free food – and not just FNB scraps! Contact [email protected] if you have any questions.“
