Painting our bookshelves this week. It makes me feel happy to look at the progress I’ve made this far. Getting rid of the 80s oak finish look (House built in 1988). It’s been so fun configuring all the shelves just how I want them and setting up the display. Filling she shelves with all my favorite books and plants and pottery. I’m sure I’ll change it a million times in the future (that’s just what I do). I’m about halfway finished at his point, I think. Next is the section to the right of this pic which houses the tv 📺. WEEKEND DIY: MILK CRATE BOOKSHELF

Inspired by my desperate need for a bookshelf, and a photo of re-purposed milk crates in ELLE DECOR magazine, this D.I.Y. project is pretty simple and a great way to kick off my WEEKEND DIY blog series.

Remember, before you tackle any D.I.Y. project, make sure you have all the necessary tools and materials. Also, Depending on how difficult the project is, you may need a set of instructions or a well thought out plan of attack. Taking care of these things BEFORE you start will not only spare your sanity and save time, it will also help you avoid costly mistakes.

A quick Google search for “milk crate bookshelf” produced many HOW TO articles on Pinterest. After doing some research, I realized I had most of the required materials on hand. All I needed was some spray paint and fasteners.

MATERIALS

Milk Crates (as many as you like)

Zip Ties

Spray Paint OPTIONAL

Wood Slab (for top surface)

Cardboard (to line shelves)

PROCEDURE

Gather all your materials

Clean milk crates and let dry completely.

Fasten Milk Crates together using Zip Ties

Spray Paint and let dry completely

Cut Cardboard to match dimensions of shelves

Fill with your favorite books.
