We normally work with and recommend Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan for cabinetry surfaces due to adherence, ease, and how far it goes compared to price, and use it for our Cabinet Rehab Workshop! After cleaning cabinets well (which we practice in class), other prep is non-existent to minimal depending on the substrate material— this is a major deciding factor on using this paint, besides 1) flexibility for look and technique 2) user-friendliness, and 3) no fumes + water cleanup!
