A black Samsonite briefcase owned and used by Brian Epstein. The case has Epstein’s initials ‘B’ and ‘E’ embossed on the latches. Epstein was photographed holding the briefcase at London’s Heathrow Airport on July 8, 1966, when the Beatles were returning from their tour of the Far East.
In August 1966, during the Beatles’ final tour of the United States, the case was stolen from Epstein's hotel room by Dizz Gillespie, a former boyfriend of Epstein’s. In the case were a large supply of pills, personal notes and photographs, and a bag containing $20,000 in cash, which had been received for concert performances. Days later, Nat Weiss received a ransom note for $10,000 for the return of these belongings. The case was later secured in an elaborate sting devised by Weiss and a Los Angeles private detective, but the pills, personal notes, photographs, and most of the cash remained missing.
