The 4th name mentioned in Daft Punk’s “Teachers” was DJ Rush who, like Michael Jordan, is a 6'6" black guy cutting his teeth on Chicago's South Side in the '80s before hitting it big in the '90s.
Isaiah Major, better known as DJ Rush, was born in 1970 on Chicago’s South Side, where he was surrounded by gospel, disco, and industrial noise. Known for his booming voice and larger-than-life presence, he came up in the city's underground clubs during the late '80s, shaping the raw energy of house into something heavier, stranger, and more sexual.
In the late '90s, he moved to Europe, and something clicked. In Berlin, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, he found a scene hungry for his style, techno that was relentless and sexual. His sound got deemed as “Schranz” in Germany. DJ Rush became a fixture in European clubs, the kind of places that don’t care who you are if you can command a room for eight hours straight. And he could.
As of mid-2025, DJ Rush remains a formidable presence in the global techno scene, continuing to deliver his signature high-energy sets across major festivals and clubs. His recent performances include appearances at renowned events such as Berghain in Berlin, Razzmatazz in Barcelona, and Ruhr-in-Love in Oberhausen. Looking ahead, he's slated to perform at Awakenings Festival 2025 in the Netherlands and Aquasella Festival 2025 in Spain.
