Dutch Guiana - Land of the Djuka
a short colonial documentary about the Djuka, a people in Suriname founded by enslaved Africans who escaped and started their own community, similar to that of a number of communities founded by escaped enslaved Africans throughout the Caribbean, Central and South Americas - e.g. Maroons, Quilombos, etc. The film mentions that they're a non-literate people, but the only other information i found on them seems to center around a Djuka script.
Dutch Guiana - Land of the Djuka 1933 This documentary was shot in Dutch Guiana (Suriname) by James A. Fitzpatrick for TravelTalks: Voice of the Globe. It provides a window into the life of the Maroons, descendants of West Africans who escaped from slaveholders in the West Indies, Central America, South America and North America and established independent communities in remote areas.
