DeForest Kelley, The Californians, “The Painted Lady” (1959) (1 of 2)

I was going to do a gifset of this, but it’s another of De’s “blink and you’ll miss it” roles (he’s not even credited here). So, I’ll just put his two brief scenes on here.

This is your standard TV western, lawman in 1850s Gold Rush San Francisco. This time, though, De is neither bad nor cowboy, he’s a prosecutor on the right side of the jail bars.

I’m still a little disappointed he’s not the one with leggy hitched up, but maybe that move was reserved for the main cast back then.

I fully intend to gif this whole thing later, but here’s a fun clip of evil cowboy!De (really evil, he’s just a complete scumbag here) in Bat Masterson, “No Amnesty for Death.”

(Btw, I am a little sad that they chose the hangman to wear the really plunging neckline, but it’s still a good look for De.)

Part 2. Frontier lawyer!De is frustrated that his case is being dismissed, and I’m frustrated with GRIT network for once again waiting for my man to appear to run their silly ads. 🙄

Anyhow, he’s not given much to work with here, but he does it well, anyhow, conveying an impressive amount of disgruntlement with that one eyebrow.

Gotta say I was surprised when I finally got to watch this with audio. Turns out western!De is threatening his cousin, with whom he has long-standing beef.

Just saying, if this is how he looks at a relative he hates, how do you suppose he’d look at a stranger he liked? 😜

🍿 De Video Clip 🍿 - Lawman, “The Squatters” (1961)

Been debating whether I should post this - cw for very mean! and scary!De 🥺 - but as usual, the accent and stubble won me over.

Bent still thinks power of attorney means he should be able to kick all the tenants off his late boss’ land even though he’s not even the heir. The marshal just declined to help him, so now he’s having a hot Southern temper tantrum and doing it anyway.

Currently losing my shit over this clip from The Silent Service where naval officer!De reports for sub duty and is immediately stricken with a severe case of the bouncy-wiggles. I don’t think he slows down once.
