DL Chapter 60 Sneak Peek
I was listening to this.
When the bright light disappeared, and you could see bits and pieces of the world between your bruised and bloodied fingers, you lowered your hands, revealing the footless Cauldron and…snow.
Your eyebrows pulled together, and your mouth parted. You reclined your head, and your eyes reluctantly followed, not leaving the weakened Cauldron until the last possible second.
Snow kissed your face. You stared and stared and stared at the cloudless sky.
The only explanation…snow on the Summer Solstice…if he was…and now the…and now he’s…and it’s…
“No.” You didn’t sound like yourself. You raised your hands, letting as much snow touch you as possible. “N-…” Words failed you. You struggled to breathe.
You staggered toward the Cauldron, tripping over bodies, vacantly understanding that if you hadn’t been who you were — what you were, you would’ve been dead.
I’m going to end you, you thought, magic numbing your fingertips.
And then a male appeared out of nowhere and put an arm around your waist, wrenching you away from the Cauldron.
“No!” You fought the male’s hold, but you were so devastated — shattered, that you couldn’t tell up from down. You got an elbow in, making him grunt. You inhaled raggedly to scream at the top of your lungs and…smelled. Him. Smelled ash and metal — iron and copper. Saw endless, blue, blistering skies. Snow everywhere. Bodies. Everywhere.
“(Y/n).” Eris’s voice cut through you as he sat you on something.
You leaned back and saw fabric. So you were in a tent. You hadn’t even realized Eris had winnowed you.
“What’s wrong? What’s she saying?” Azriel.
“Snow. She’s saying the word ‘snow.’”
Rocking back and forth, you touched your face. Still wet from the snow.
And then you found yourself wiping your face. Your hands. Your nails dug into your skin until Eris and Azriel had to hold you still.
“Get it off,” you begged, tears blurring your vision. “Get him off! Get him off of me!”
There was a commotion in the tent.
The next thing you knew, someone threw a bucketful of water in your face.
You finally stopping rocking.
Azriel and Eris were crouching in front of you, horrified.
“He’s dead,” you whispered. “He’s gone.”
