Final piece; Meme’s and Appropriation
To begin my meme appropriation, I thought of memes and what they are used for; such as, to make jokes, copy another or make fun of something. They are a facets that grow rapidly on the Internet taking a form of an image, hyperlink, video, picture, website, or hashtag.
The internet has dramatically influenced art, which has changed throughout the years creating modern art forms. The internet has influenced the way we appropriate master pieces transforming the image's looks and acts, bringing it to life. The appropriation of art in high and low culture borrows elements to create a new work of art, changing the look, deceiving the viewer, by adding in graffiti or cans that is low culture and something elegant that is high culture.
My Giff animation is of the Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890) painting of the 'Sunflowers' (1888) oil on canvas. To begin appropriating I have borrowed the element of the sunflower in Van Gogh painting as the main focus. I have used the effects of Photoshop to do each layer as I needed to create the picture before using the GIFF generator.
I have made the flowers wilt and transform into dying sunflowers as the painting is old they would have to be dead by now. By using the effects of low and high culture I have transformed the painting, by adding in graffiti on the glass vase this resembles the growing age and the surrounding factor of a signature.
What I could have done better maybe is increase the quality of the GIFF, improve the transitions of the slides, and by having more slides with different shots of the flowers. Or I could have it turning into a really low culture flower. My technical issues were my struggle of learning how to use the software and not knowing what I could achieve.
I used giffr.com and giffniga to make my GIFF.
