A rabbit hole inside of a rabbit hole inside of a rabbit hole
This is how our featured tipper this week, Daniel Modell (@dMnyc), NYC-based creative director and interactive designer, described Bitcoin.
Daniel first took an interest in Bitcoin sometime in mid-2013 when he had been casually following news about Wikileaks. As their traditional donation streams had been cut off, their supporters were using bitcoin to circumvent the financial blockade. But it was not until mid-December 2013 when he watched a YouTube video of a talk by Andreas Antonopoulos at the Athens Disrupt conference that he realized he should be taking Bitcoin seriously.
He first learned about tipping when he began casually following Dogecoin. He saw that the users were really generous with their tokens, notwithstanding the fact that they had very little actual value.
"I often wonder if, in a few years people will discover that the 10¢ to $1 tips they are receiving on Twitter and other social media sites that they had forgotten about are suddenly worth substantially more. What would someone think if a $1 tip received in 2014 is worth $1000 in 2018?"
Most Creative Uses of Bitcoin "Bitcoin itself is an extraordinarily creative way to move money, and most people in the world haven't really taken a first, let alone a second look at it."
"Ultimately, though, I think the most creative use for bitcoin will be its potential to provide self-determination and empowerment to the billions of people around the world who currently have limited or no access to banking and financial services."
"There is an opportunity for micro-commerce on a scale that is unimaginable today. There are companies that are currently planning to deploy satellite and balloon-based internet service, which could bring the Internet within reach of nearly every person on the planet. I can't wait to see what the world will look like in 2025 when, hopefully, the Bitcoin economy is as firmly established as the Internet is today." How Daniel Uses ChangeTip Right now, Daniel supports myriad homeless people with coffees he buys using bitcoin, and as we speak, he is collecting money to buy a tablet for his friend Chernoh, who lives in Sierra Leone, West Africa. Daniel is an incredible part of our community, and I hope you'll get to know him and learn about him and his work, too. 3 Ways to Support Daniel Tip Daniel to support his work here Follow Daniel on Twitter here To support Daniel's mission, I will be forwarding all of my incoming tips to him for 24 hours.
