Update

Been a while since my last post. Sorry guys! I went on vacation (Hawaii and California), got back, worked some more at my summer work gig at Woodlawn Cemetery, celebrated my birthday, and then started remodeling my room at home. 

It’s been quite the project. We tore down the wallpaper in my room (that’s literally been up for 30 years, which is like triple the time I’ve actually lived in said room). I don’t know if any of you have stripped wallpaper before, but if there is more than one layer of paper underneath, you’re in for a time-consuming project. Softening the adhesive took either the use of a fabric steamer or a vinegar-dish soap spray combo (my dad made and used). It was really an all-day thing. Luckily, I had my dad and brother helping me.

There have been a bunch of new improvements. My room is small, so I wanted to stick with painting the walls and ceiling, white. May I just say that painting a ceiling (make sure you get good ceiling paint, in flat--I recommend Behr Interior Ceiling Flat), even one as small as a 10′ x 9′ room, is no easy feat? I also got a new carpet, in a beige color. And I’ll also be getting a new desk and end table. I have a new bed frame and mattress, both from IKEA (entirely overdue for a new mattress--I slept on the same mattress for about 20 years). Again, just sticking with a light color palette to keep the room looking large and not cramped. 

I’m maybe about 3/4 of the way through. I moved around the furniture and dressers. Still have to place all my books back onto my bookshelves. And re-organize all the crap I want to keep vs. get rid of vs. keep in the basement. Then I get to decorate!

In other life news, my Dell XPS Ultrabook laptop (its name was Cliff) finally died. There was no fixing it, the hard drive had been going downhill for the last few months...so I got a new laptop the other day: an HP Envy x360 2-in-1. Thanks to Labor Day sales, I got it for a pretty good price at Best Buy. The screen can bend in every direction: I’ve got a tablet option, movie mode, presentation/tent mode, and regular mode. I don’t have a name yet for this laptop, but it’s really neat!

I’m in China! (with limited internet connection) I’ll be here for a week with my brother and my dad. Woot!

Advisor has sent back additional edits for thesis. Not officially done just yet. =\

Also, I’ll be out of town from the 12th to the 19th. Off to Miami for the AIC Conference and then to Orlando for HP World.
