i need somebody who plays dnd to explain it to me like i'm stupid but ONLY in how to correctly write character stats and understand the classes

like yea i get it its a game where you can do almost anything and its fun, how do i make my character balanced in terms of the stats while also taking into account what the race i chose would be typically good at and stuff
