Evening came, and as predicted, the streets were overflowing with people too drunk on festivities to notice the rest of the world. There was yet another celebration. Eunyoung had lost count the number of times those of higher status threw something as lavish a gathering to celebrate the most shallow of things. They had too much time in their hands, she thought as she passed by almost unnoticed. Such ignorance, however, proved to be an advantage for the night's agenda. She would not have to leave the town proper to provide what he sought for. The gisaeng house did not appeal to him as a safe place, not even when it provides privacy as needed. Somehow, this is wearing off on her. Open spaces, those without walls and doors felt even safer than anywhere else; by the riverbanks, the lake dock, the store spread around the corner.
Tonight, it was the bridge that connected the marketplace to where most of the middle class lived. It was another predicted oddity. People pass by that bridge every day, as she did, and there was nothing to be left discrete should they meet there. Somewhere at the back of her mind, she thougth that, perhaps, she had been caught. Maybe it was under the sullen sky that she'll finally meet her mother when they eliminate her. She would have thought it a trick if she didn't put a stop to her thoughts to notice that there was almost no one crossing. In fact, the surrounding had fallen rather silent with the noise being concetrated on just one side of the town where the celebration took place.
Eunyoung stood in the middle, looking over the water to see the moon's reflection as the water danced timidly with the slightest of movements. While waiting for her company, she had began to amuse herself with the most foolish of things, guessing the colors of the flowers that grew along the pathways, counting the number of times the wind blew against her skin until she felt the cold. There were some trivial things they ought not to do when people are looking, things she still did and got in trouble for. One example would be, gisaeng never seem to be bothered by the cold. But she knew quite well that it is all a front. It does bother them, but they choose to delay and reserve their responses when they are beyond the eyes of the public. Out of habit, she looked left and right before rubbing her hands together and placing them over her cheeks, basking in the warmth, eyes closed and a small smile drawing itself on her lips.
