encore + eunyoung
Oh, how he wanted to tell her sweet words, to shower her with praise of her kindness and how she was akin to the sun of the young scholar. During his youth - Bong Ki must of spent hours pouring his thoughts onto paper about the woman before him, scrolls wasted as he tried to gather his feelings for her. Every phrase she spoke to him - made the scholar flustered, and dumbfounded.
Bong Ki’s eyes widening at her denial, alas, the opportunity to see the woman who was in his eyes, more breathtaking than of any of the four beauties of China had slipped away. Eunyoung’s presence was worth to him more than his studies, to think the son of such a high class ranking yangban was made into a fool by not even a touch from a pretty woman. But in his eyes, Eunyoung was more than just a gisaeng, she deserved the respect and adoration of any lady from the yangban class. Though Bong Ki’s opinion was filled with bias for the woman before him.
“Oh I insist plea-”
The young student was halted in his plea when the other spoke - her voice caught onto him like a trap, a spell over him once more. “ Ah, I’d enjoy very much to accompany you.” A bashfulness smile played on his lips, his youth shining through as he almost stumbled to catch up with the gisaeng the beads of his hat swaying as he laughed. “ My mother’s a very patient woman, it’s the most I could do. “ Bong Ki hummed softly, his hands placed behind his back as they walked down the marketplace. “ My engagement plans..have been halted for the time being..I have no betrothed at this time.” The scholar admitted, his eyes finding Eunyoung’s before he turned his attention to the stands beside them. “ There’s so many hair pins here, it’d be hard to pick one for my mother.”
As he began to act more comfortably, the rest of the world began to fade for Eunyoung. Her mind began to wonder to the images dancing at the back of her head, ones that she had long tried to keep in the shadows far from reach. It flooded her consciouness as he continued to speak. She imagined little boys running around the garden with features that resemble the shy scholar's and little girls sitting around the table with eyes that could be mistaken to be stolen from her. It was wonderful... while it lasted.
She was quick to nurse back her smile, nodding her head as she kept up with his words. "I am certain that they will find a lady for you soon enough, one of great character." She was astounded by how well she concealed the bitterness that lingered within. "...the right one for you."
Once again, she is reminded that only Nang Bongki had that privilege, being with the right one. Only this young man will have the chance to bring the dreamlike images to life. And the little girls with her dark brown eyes, should they be born, will never have the luxury to sit around the table like noble ladies. They will inherit the same bitterness, regrets and limitations that come with being born a female of their ranking.
"Don't worry yourself, young master. That is what I'm here for..." She reassured him with a smile, while thousands of questions grumbled beneath it. Eunyoung came to a stop, shifting her gaze to the long array of pins before her. "I can see you are still the same ever, Bongki..." The words slipped way too quickly for her to restrain them. It was too comfortable for her liking. The comfort brought with it feelings that she had pacified a while back, forbidden feelings that she knew will never be reciprocated.
"P-perhaps, this one?" She reached out for a silver one, fingers carefully tracing the outline of the branches were small flowers and pearls were nested in.
