Now for some history ....In April 1984 the new 260,000 square foot $49 million Main Library Branch in Fort Lauderdale, Florida opened. The Main Branch was located in a multi-purposes building and was considered to be a symbol of the resurgence of business, government, and cultural activity in the downtown Fort Lauderdale area.[7] The Broward County Library was named "Library of the Year" in 1996 by Library Journal and Gale Research.
